HARDWARE

The POCO M3 is made entirely of polycarbonate or plastic which is normal for its price range. Plastic is usually more durable than glass and metal. We also love its rough and rubbery surface at the back. It gives a ressuring grip when holding it. In fact, you may not need to install a TPU case. One of the best feature of this phone is its large POCO logo beside the cameras. We love how proud the company is with their products.

We normally don’t cover audio quality of a smartphone but it should be worth mentioning that the phone has dual speakers. They are not stereo and Hi-Fi audio but audio is loud enough for watching videos or playing games. As for the display, we have a large 6.5-inch display. So far the screen is decent enough to use indoors but it does lack some brightness when using it outdoors.

SOFTWARE

Its been a while since we reviewed a phone running MIUI. We were surprised on how far MIUI has gone since its older versions. MIUI 12 is more flat, simple and easier to use. We also love its bigger icons and fonts by default. Overall, we love what Xiaomi has done with MIUI 12.

The POCO M3 is powered by a Snapdragon 662 orocessor paired with 4GB RAM. In today’s standards 4GB RAM on an Android phone with heavily skinned custom UI could mean slower response when opening apps and multitasking. It does take time when opening apps which takes about 2 seconds. We noticed some slowdowns when multitasking and more apps are open in the background. We think Xiaomi should offer 6GB RAM on the POCO M3 as standard.

CAMERA

Leading the pack of cameras is a 48MP sensor at the back and two 2MP sensors. There is also a 8MP selfie camera. So far we are satisfied with the photos we took. It is not spectacularly great but shots are decent for the price.

BATTERY AND CONNECTIVITY

We noticed excellent WiFi and 4G/LTE reception we are getting from our Smart SIM. Internet speeds are within good range and calls are clear with no issues. We never experienxed any signal drops both network and WiFi.

The 6,000 mAh battery is hard to kill. We mean, it is impossible to kill it in one day. We did everything we can like Netflix, YouTube and IWant TFC for a day and we still get more than 40% juice left.

VERDICT

The POCO M3 is one of the best entry level smartphones you can get today. It has great build quality, decent camera, nice and easy to understand MIUI 12 and unkillable battery. If you can live up with some of its negatives like certain slowdowns when more apps are open in the background, the POCO M3 should be on your shopping list.
