We are now used to large phones with its large displays. With the Huawei Y5p, it may take some time getting used to because of its small 5.45-inch display. It is also a small phone overall. Very pocketable, easy to hold and convinient to use with one hand.

For the price, the 5.45-inch display is decent. It is not the best display ever but its manageable. It is not as bright as we wanted to but that’s understandable.

Good thing the Huawei Y5p, even if it is an entry level phone, runs on Android latest software version. Most entry level phones still runs the older versions. On top of Android 10 is EMUI 10. EMUI comes with Huawei Mobile Services and Huawei’s own App Gallery. Most popular titles are now available there such as Tiktok, Snapchat, GCash, BPI Mobile Banking, Lazada, Viber and Speedtest. Facebook can be downloaded when you go to the App Gallery and on the search bar type Facebook. You will be redirected to a download page then click Download. Other apps not present in the App Gallery can be downloaded via APK Pure app.

On the performance side, the Helio P22 chipset can handle basic tasks like calls, texts, online messaging and calls, casual social media, etc. But we do not recommend downloading medium games like Mobile Legends or PUBG Mobile here due to its limited RAM capacity and the ability of chipset to handle such games. The phone is not built for that.

Normally, when it comes to entry level smartphones, in order to keep the cost down is manufacturers tend to put mediocre cameras into the device. Not in the case of the Huawei Y5p. Still, it not the best camera but for its price range, it performs better than other entry level phones out there. Check out some of our sample photos here!

Expect good WiFi and 4G/LTE connectivity from a Huawei phone. Internet speeds are good, no sudden signal drops and calls are clear with no issues.

The battery is holding up pretty well. With a low power processor and a low resolution screen, the 3,020 mAh battery can further stretch your juice. We managed to get around 6 hours of video on this thing which is not bad. On light to moderate use, this is an easy a day and half phone.

The Huawei Y5p is a pretty solid entry level offering. For people who does the usual or the basics on their phone such as calls, messages, casual social media, this phone can handle that easily. This is also perfect for Grab delivery motorcycle riders as their Waze partner. Or if you are really have small budget for a phone, the Huawei Y5p should be on your list.
