We already saw the black paint job and we are lucky to have the blue one for review. The blue one has a nice X pattern at the back giving it a unique look. The phone looks like the Huawei Y9 Prime probably because of the placement of the camera, fingerprint scanner and the pop up camera. Good thing the HONOR 9X already sports USB Type C and still has an audio jack.

Let’s take a hardware tour – the pop up camera and SIM card tray are on the top portion. Volume rockers and power button are on the right while at the bottom we have 3.5mm audio jack, USB Type C port and single speaker. At the back, we have triple cameras and the rear mounted fingerprint scanner.

The 6.59-inch display is an IPS panel. Color accuracy and saturation is decent but its not near with the likes of AMOLED. As for brightness, it does well outdoors but not under direct sunlight. The good thing here, since the selfie camera is tucked away, you get a notchless viewing experience.

All HONOR smartphones are running Huawei’s EMUI skin on top of Android. HONOR is a sub brand of Huawei in case you did not know. Expect the same built quality and software experience here. So far we have only installed our social media apps. Yes, this has Google Mobile Services and it will receive regular updates. Underneath, the HONOR 9X is powered by a Kirin 810 chipset with 6GB RAM. This chipset can run games and do heavy multitasking but we have to test that further.

The HONOR 9X has four cameras – three at the back and the selfie camera. We have a 48MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP depth sensor. The pop up selfie camera is 16MP. Like any other Huawei phones even in the midrange, it can really take good photos. Check out some of our first sample photos.

The HONOR (X should be lined up as one of the best midrange smartphones today. It does have good build quality, very good cameras, a large battery and a nice design. We give our two thumbs up recommendation if you decide to buy one. For now, we have to explore much of the phone and give our final verdict on our full review.
