Its this time of the year again that most people are buying their next smartphone. We already did a list of the best flagship smartphones you can buy today. This time, let;s go for the budget conscious entry level market. Phones with this price range are getting better and there are some of them that stand out and definitely has our two thumbs up recommendation. Let’s check them out in no particular order.
Huawei Y7 Pro 2019
The Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 is good solid offering from Huawei for the entry level market. Normally, Huawei focused more on the midrange and flagships this year. The Y7 Pro does offer a good build quality phone and a decent single camera. It also has a large 4,000 mAh battery. The problem is the phone has only one rear camera whereas its competitors have three or four cameras already.
If Huawei focused more on midragners, Realme focused its marketing and other resources at the entry level market. They released the Realme 3 earlier this year and months after the Realme 5. Between the two, of course, we recommend the Realme 5 because its the newer model and priced just the same. The Realme 5 offers 4 rear cameras, a large 6.5-inch display and a large 5,000 mAh battery and that phone cannot die. Not to mention its better software experience thanks to ColorOS 6 and Realme’s commitment to updates. The phone is priced at Php 6,990 for the base model 3GB/32GB.
Redmi Note 8
Xiaomi is Realme’s main competition in the midrange and entry level markets have also very strong offering. Earlier this year, the Redmi Note 7 was launched and later on its successor the Redmi Note 8 is the current hottest entry phone today. It has four rear cameras, a 6.3-inch Full HD display, a large 4,000 mAh battery. MiUI is generally smooth and Xiaomi is also committed to Android updates.
Cherry Mobile Flare S8 Pro
Cherry Mobile is the only Filipino smartphone brand that can still compete to the Chinese brands. The company still offers smartphones above 5k and people are still buying them. The Cherry Mobile Flare S8 Pro is one solid offering. It has a large 4,000 mAh battery for starters. It has a 6.5-inch display, dual rear cameras and Mediatek Helio P22 powering it. That phone is priced at Php 5,999.
The Realme C2 is a much cheaper option from the Realme 5. This is for basic smartphone users like calls, texts, social media and basic but capable cameras. The phone is powered by a Helio P22 processor, a 6.1-inch display and a large 4,000 mAh battery. In fairness, the camera takes better photos and it has a stylish back designs. The phone is priced at Php 5,490 for the base 2GB/32GB version.
There are other smartphones you might want to consider. If you are looking for a more established brand like Samsung, there are two – the Galaxy A10s and the Galaxy A20s. But we think Realme and Xiaomi offers better specs and camera. OPPO has their own offerings to like A5s but we never got a chance to review them. Vivo has their own offerings but like OPPO we never had the chance to review them. You will never go wrong with the phones we mentioned. We recommend you check them out for yourself and see which phone will be best for you and your budget.
