Looking at the Realme XT for the first time, we were greeted by a familiar design we saw from its siblings, the Realme 5 and 5 Pro. Same rounded corners, flat display, same quad camera placement, horizontal logo and gradiant colors. It is actually hard to distinguish which is which.

Exploring the hardware further, we see that the volume rockers are on the right and power button on the left. The bottom part has the single speaker, USB Type C port, microphone and 3.5mm audio jack. We have the __ blue color and we actually like it. For us, the design is very generic until we saw the display. The 6/4-inch display is an AMOLED panel which we love. Expect punchy colors, deeper blacks and putting this phone into dark mode is worth it.

Realme uses its sister brand OPPO’s ColorOS 6 as a skin of choice on top of Android 9.0 Pie. By default, Realme opted to have an app drawer after you are done with the set up process. If you have used an OPPO smartphone before, ColorOS 6 will be very familiar to you. Under the hood, we have the same Snapdragon 712 processor as the Realme 5 Pro. Expect the same performance here.

The star of the show here is that 64MP main camera. That is a Samsung sensor with f/1.8 aperture. By default, it shoots 16MP photos but you can use the full 64MP if you wish. Apart from that, you get an 8MP ultrawide lens, 2MP macro lens and 2MP depth sensor. So far we are liking the photos we took which is all in auto mode. We also tried shooting using the ultrawide as well.

Here are some of our first sample photos:

The Realme XT gave us really good first impressions. We only had 24 hours with as of this writing and we are already loving this phone. Choosing between the Realme 5 Pro and Realme XT will be hard because they offer the same swift performance. All you have to decide now if you are compelled with the XT’s 64MP cameraI and the AMOLED display over 48MP camera and IPS LCD display of the Realme 5 Pro. If you are very keen getting the Realme XT already, we give our early recommendation. 🙂
