Everytime Vivo releases its new V-series smartphone, we are always impressed with the improvements they’ve done. The Vivo V17 Pro is no different. We already love the Vivo V15 Pro before it but we love what did level up the design of the V17 Pro to make it more premium. Find out here why.

HARDWARE

Compared with the V15 Pro, the Vivo V17 Pro feels more premium. You can easily place it beside a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ and tell your friends this is a flagship phone. The phone is made in metal and glass. As as a result, it very slippery to hold. Good thing Vivo included a hard case to protect the phone. Our phone’s color is called Cystal White. To our eyes if its like ice blue which is really nice. Surprisingly, it does not accumulate fingerprints.

The phone has a 3.5mm audio jack and the SIM card tray is located at the bottom beside the USB Type C port which is finally present in a Vivo midrange smartphone. Moving on with the display, we have a 6.4-inch AMOLED display here. Punchy colors, bright display even under sunlight and perfect for dark mode to save battery.

SOFTWARE

We wonder why did Vivo used the same chipset on the V15 Pro on this device. It runs on the same Snapdragon 675 processor with 8GB RAM. Honestly, we don’t mind having the same chipset here since the 675 is already proven to be powerful and tuned for gaming. We kinda hoped that the phone will have a Snapdragon 7-series here but we guess this will jack up the price. Expect the same performance and gaming experience here.

To be honest, we are not fans of Vivo’s Funtouch OS on top of Android 9.0 Pie. If you are using a Vivo smartphone for the first time, this will take some getting used to. But overall, Funtouch OS is clean and once you get a hang of it, it is easy to navigate through the menus.

CAMERA

The star of the show here are the cameras especially at the front. For better selfie experience, VIvo added an 8MP ultrawide selfie camera in tandem with the 32MP main selfie camera. If you need more people in your group photo, simply switch to the ultrawide cam. At the rearwe have a 48MP main lens, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP depth sensor and 2MP macro lens. The macro lens is used for take upclose shots up to 4mm to your subject. This is perfect for taking photos of flower petals, leaves or small insects.

CONNECTIVITY AND BATTERY

we had no problems with WiFi and 4G/LTE connectivity. So far WiFi signal and speeds are very good. 4G/LTE speeds are ok though we noticed slower speeds as compared with other phones using the same network and the same place. Calls are clear with no issues.

We should say that the battery life on the Vivo V17 Pro is above average. We managed to get around 7 hours of screen on time during our video loop tests. On normal moderate to heavy use, this an easy 2-day phone for most of us.

VERDICT

The Vivo V17 Pro is a great phone for its price. It look premium, very flagship level look and feel, amazing selfie camera, capable rear cameras, above average battery life, loving this Crystal White color and beautiful and bright display. If you are using a V15 Pro, you don’t need to upgrade unless you badly need that 8MP ultrawide selfie camera. Otherwise, you get the same performance since both phones are powered by the same chipset.
