Vivo is back in the radar and has been really hyping this new phone, the Vivo S1. It is the first phone from the S-line to come to the Philippines. Vivo is positioning it for the youth market with its impressive specs, capable cameras and stylish, youthful design and color options. We had the phone for about a week and here’s our quick review.

The youthful vibe is very evident on the design. We have this Skyline Blue color and we actually love it. The shiny shimmering diamond design and the bluish to white hue color is one its striking and attractive feature especially if you are a teenager. Surprisingly, this phone is light despite having a 4,500 mAh battery. It is also comfortable to hold with one hand.
Moving on to the display, we have a 6.38-inch AMOLED display here. Expect punchy color saturation resulting to vibrant colors that pop when watching videos or playing games. The display, however, is not as bright as we expect it to be (400 to 450 nits). That is very evident when using it under direct sunlight.
Funtouch 9 is Vivo’s custom skin on top of Android. Like what we’ve said before, if you have not used any Vivo smartphone before, there will be a bit of adjustment when navigating the phone. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal the Shortcut Center where you can find brightness and volume toggles. Swipe down to reveal the notification area.
Everything else feels like you are using an iOS device which is not a bad thing. Everything here is very fluid and we never experienced lags. Fluidity and smoothness is one of the best things we love about Funtouch. Apart from the smoothness, the Helio P65 is a chipset tuned for mobile gaming. Playing games like PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends will run smoothly here.
We have been praising Vivo’s selfie camera for taking great selfies across their models, including the Vivo S1. Based on our photos, our selfies did not disappoint. Going to the back, the triple rear cameras worked very well and produced very good photos in good daylight.

BATTERY AND CONNECTIVITY
We never had any problems with phone calls and dropped signals. 4G?LTE works very well on our Smart SIM and we never encountered any sudden slowdown in internet speeds.
Battery life very solid. We managed to get around 7 hours of screen on time on our video loop test and got around 20% left in the tanks. This is basically easy two-day phone for most of us.
We really got the vibe that the Vivo S1 is sending to us. The hip vibe it brings is contagious by just simply using it. Great battery life, AMOLED display, great cameras both rear and selfie and overall smooth performance places the Vivo S1 as one of our favorite midrange smartphones today. With that we give the Vivo S1 our #FTARecommended seal of approval.
