Gaming laptops have become more powerful specially those which are equipped with the new NVIDIA RTX graphics cards.

The Lenovo Legion Y740 offers an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA RTX 2060 GPU, and a stylish design for serious gamers who still want to have a portable device.

Is this the one you are looking for? Let’s find out.

The Lenovo Legion 740 has a good build quality. Most of its parts are made from aluminum that’s why it feels pretty solid. I also like the overall design because unlike most gaming laptops, the Legion 740 has a neat and clean design.

The ports are mostly placed on the back of the device. They also have these illuminating icons which are very helpful in placing the right cable on the right port.

The most used ports are placed on both sides for easy access. We have the USB Type-C and audio jack on the left side and we have a USB Type-A on the right side.

When you opened the laptop, you will see its RGB keyboard with nice layout and micro keys on the left side. Unfortunately, it has no dedicated number keys. It also has a good trackpad with accurate and smooth precision.

The Legion Y740 has a good display with nice color and a bright screen. It has a fast response rate at 144Hz. It also has NVIDIA G-SYNC and Dolby Vision-enabled. The top and side bezels are now slimmer but the bottom bezel is way too thick.

The unit that we have was equipped with a 6-core Intel Core i7-8750H processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB. It has 1TB of HDD + 256GB of SSD storage and 16GB of DDR4 RAM at 2666 MHz.

Overall, it can handle everything you throw at it. Popular high-graphics games are running on max settings with high fps and smooth visuals.

The fans are also quite as compared to other gaming laptops we have reviewed before and the thermals on this device are managed effectively by the two fans and good vents.

On a normal use like editing files and browsing the internet, the Legion Y740 last around 4 hours before it hit the 10% warning. Meanwhile, when playing games, I am only getting below 2 hours of battery life. So if you are planning to bring this on work or in school, I advise you to bring the charger with you. The charger comes in a big package and it has some weight into it. Charging the device with RapidMode ON takes only around an hour to fully charge the device.

The Lenovo Legion Y740 is one of the best gaming laptops we have reviewed so far. The design is so good and you can’t question its performance speacilly now that the 9th Gen Intel processor is available in the market. If you are a serious gamer and you still want a device that you can bring anywhere or use in your daily work, the Legion Y740 might be the one you are looking for.
