This never ending trade dispute saga involving Chinese tech company Huawei, its home country China and the US made another turn earlier today.
Last week, US President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order to US companies to deals with Huawei to cut their ties and then yesterday Google suspends its Android support and services to Huawei. Later that day, American companies to supply hardware components to Huawei like Intel, Broadcom, Qualcomm, etc has also suspended their ties with them. As a result, a huge outrage of millions of Huawei smartphone users around the world. Many has criticized the US with this move that affects Huawei customers especially those who just bought the recently launched Huawei P30 series.
Today, the US Department of Commerce has granted Huawei a temporary license to continue to working with its American hardware and software suppliers such as Google, Intel, Qualcomm, etc to maintain its existing devices for updates. The temporary license will last for 90 days which means it will end on August 19, 2019.
It is unclear for existing Huawei devices with what will happen after the mentioned date has passed. For now, if you are a Huawei smartphone owner you can relax for now. The problem for Huawei still exists. Future Huawei phones will still not get Google support and the Chinese company can no longer get hardware components from US companies to make their processors and other materials to make a smartphone.
We will continue to monitor the development of this China-US dispute that affects even the tech world.
