We’ve seen reviews of the Samsung Galaxy S10+ and the regular Galaaxy S10 in recent weeks but we don’t see much reviews of the most affordable among the S10 series – the Samsung Galaxy S10e. The Samsung Galaxy S10e is smallest among the trio with only 5.8-inch display. Compared to its siblings, it has slightly more bezels as the display does not go edge to edge and bends over on the sides. The display also has a lower screen resolution of Full HD. It actually looks good! Since it AMOLED, you get deep blacks, nice color saturation and gets very bright when you are outdoors.
A small body mean it is also very light. It is so light that its made of plastic. But actually, the phone has a metal and glass construction. It is also IP68 certified water and dust resistant. You won’t need to worry about accidental dip in the water. People with small hands will really appreciate its small size with a flagship level of specs.
Over the years, Samsung has toned down its own UI on top of Android by eliminating duplicate apps and redesigning the overall look. This time, Samsung renamed its UI to One UI which is cleaner, easier to use and designed for one hand usage. We do love Samsung’s new UI! Its simple to use and very easy to understand. There are still tons of customizations you can do with it and change the overall look through Samsung’s in-house theme store.
Overall performance is very smooth. We never had issues of lags and slowdowns. Because underneath, we have the Exynos 9820 chipset which is just as powerful as the Snapdragon 855. Due to our limited time, we were not able to play graphic intense games here. But games like PUBG will run very smoothly here even setting the graphics to high.
Samsung dropped the telephoto camera in the Galaxy S10e. Here, we have the same 12 MP main sensor and 16MP ultra wide sensor as the higher end Galaxy S10. The Galaxy S10e has one of the best cameras on a flagship today. Due to our limited time with it, we are not able to play around with the camera so all photos were taken in auto settings. You can judge by some of the sample photos we took.
BATTERY AND CONNECTIVITY
On paper, the Galaxy S1)e has a rather small 3,100 mAh battery. We were not actually not confident that the phone will not reach the whole day of heavy use. But to our surprise, it did manage to get around 5 hours of screen on time on our battery drain test through video loop. It is safe to say that the Galaxy S10e is has above average battery life. Not bad!
Samsung has also enhanced its 4G/LTE and WiFi capabilities. It gets better LTE and WiFi signal plus connection is noticeably faster. Globe’s LTE services has been very good during the short time we had. The side mounted fingerprint scanner works very well and we think its still faster than the under display fingerprint scanner of the Galaxy S10. Calls are clear with no issues.
Among the trio of the Galaxy S10e, we must say that the Galaxy S10e will be the phone to buy for most flagship buyers because of its price when buying it unlocked. It is very light, nice display, very good cameras, easy to hold with one hand and very pocketable. If you need more juice, we suggest to get the Samsung Galaxy S10+ because of its 4,100 mAh battery.
You can also get the Samsung Galaxy S10e through Globe Postpaid’s ThePLAN 1299 + Php 900 per month cash out for 24 months.
