The Realme 3’s hardware reminds us of its OPPO F7 cousin. It is slightly thick but its fine considering the large 4,230 mAh battery inside it. Its a simple and very straightforward design and finish. Realme also borrowed Huawei’s vertical placement of its branding on the bottom left corner as it is aimed to be a camera phone.
The display is a 6.2-inch IPS panel with a 720p resolution. It has a lower resolution compared to its main competition the Redmi Note 7’s Full HD display. Despite the lower screen resolution it is bright and color accurate.
Let’s check the rest of the hardware – we have the volume rocker and the SIM card tray. By the way, it has a dedicated microSD card slot. On the right, we have the power button. The bottom houses the speaker, USB 2.0 port and the 3.5mm audio jack. At the back, we have the fingerprint scanner and the dual rear cameras.
The Realme 3 comes with Android 9.0 Pie with OPPO’s custom skin ColorOS 6. If you are not aware, Realme is a sub-brand of OPPO. ColorOS 6, gets a major overhaul from its previois versions. The UI now has an app drawer just like stock Android, Even the drop down notification and quick settingd gets a major design change. Overall, we do like this new version now. ColorOS has been our favorite skin over Android because of its sheer fluidity especially for long term use. Not to mention the unit we have here is the 4GB/64GB variant. More RAM means it can handle multitasking better
First Camera Samples
In the camera department, we have a 13 megapixel main sensor with f/1.8 aperture and backed up with a 2 megapixel depth sensor. All our first camera samples were taken raw and in auto mode. So far most of our shots are indoors and they look pretty good. These cameras look promising!
Here are some of our first sample photos
We were left impressed with the Realme 3 and very fresh looking new colorOS 6. We think it is the star of the show! If you are using an old OPPO smartphone, the difference in design and fluidity is night and day considering the older versions are already smooth. Plus, the camera takes very good photos and we can’t wait to take take it out for a spin.
