Huawei Y7 Pro Review: Great Camera on a Budget Smartphone

Budget smartphones in 2019 are getting better. One perfect example is the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019. Actually, we still have smartphones below 10k with crappy cameras but many Android brands are making an effort to put better sensors on phone at this price. Could the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 be your next phone? Let’s find out.

  • Adreno 508 graphics
  • 3GB RAM

Looking at first glance, you might think that the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 has a metal and glass construction but it is actually made of polycarbonate or plastic. We tried using it without a case and fingerprints and smudges are all over it. It also gets scratches easily so better use the included case.

We also love how thin it is despite the fact it is packing a 4,000 mAh battery. It is surprisingly lightweight too. For people with small hands, it may take for your two hands to handle the phone properly because of its 6.26-inch display.

And speaking of that display, it is fairly usable outdoors though it may not be enough under direct sunlight. We also find the display a bit dull and muted. Sometimes, we dont trust the colors of the photos we took so we have to transfer our photos to a laptop to see the color accuracy.

Underneath the hardware, the phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor which paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. By 2019 standards, 3GB RAM seems to be small but if you are a light/casual smartphone user (social media, light games, chat apps, emails), it will do just fine. We advice not to push the processor to the limit like playing graphic intense games.

If you don’t intend to use this to the extreme level, the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 won’t disappoint. It will perform well and experience very rare lags at the most. On our day to day usage we never experience any slowdowns since we did light to moderate multitasking here.

The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo and we are not sure if Huawei intends to update this to Android 9.0 Pie. But ii is getting regular security updates. If you don’t care much about this, the phone will suit you well.

The most highlight feature of this phone are the cameras. Huawei did include AI (Artificial Intelligence) in which automatically enhances the cameras settings such as exposure, ISO, etc once it detects the subject. It can recognize pets, food, plants, landscape, buildings and people. You can also adjust the bokeh effects to your own liking.

Here are some of our sample photos

Well, the 4,000 mAh battery did not disappoint. No need to bring a powerbank or your wall charger anytime as it will get through the day with more juice to spare for the next day. On our video loop test, we managed to watch 4 movies on Netflix for 7 hours straight and it has still about 24% battery left. That is just impressive!

Nased on our LTE and call test, we never had call drops on our network calls via Smart. LTE speeds using the said carrier network is also consistent with no sudden drop in signal and internet quality. We could only wish for a fingerprint scanner but we do understand why Huawei opted not to include one.

The Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 is a phone for those you likes to take Instagram-worthy photos on a budget. We just can’t the words to describe how good the cameras are for photography. Just don’t expect Huawei Mate 20 Pro levels of photos here but for the price, it is a great camera. Another reason to buy this is the battery. It is an easy 2-day battery for light or casual use. The display might be a bit mediocre for our standards but for the price, again, we can’t complain.
