Samsung Galaxy M20 Hands on and First Impressions

Fresh from the launch, the Samsung Galaxy M20 has finally arrived in the Philippines. Much of the hype is focused on this phone when it launched in India. It earned some good reviews among Indian bloggers. We were able to get a hands on with the actual unit and here is our first impressions

Samsung Galaxy M20 specs:

  • Octa Core Exynos 7904 processor
  • Mali G71 MP2 graphics
  • 3GB RAM/32GB internal storage
  • Expandable memory via microSD up to 512GB
  • 6.3-inch Full HD PLS TFT display (1080 x 2340 pixels) with waterdrop notch
  • 13MP (f/1.9 aperture) + 5 MP (f/2.2 aperture, wide angle) rear facing cameras
  • 8 megapixel front facing camera (f/2.0 aperture)
  • Dual SIM, Dual Standby
  • 4G/LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, Fingerprint Scanner, Face Unlock
  • 5,000 mAh battery with fast battery charging
  • Android 8.1 Oreo with Samsung Experience UI

First impressions on the hardware is pretty good. Samsung really do make good phones even the affordable ones. The Galaxy M20 is the first of the Galaxy M-series in which Samsung is trying to shake things up on their entry level and midrange offerings.

Now back to the phone, we have a glossy plastic construction here,We actually prefer plastic rather than glass because it is less prone to breaking. . Also, it is glossy so expect fingerprints and smudges here. We hope Samsung could include a case on the package. Lastly, we are also impressed on how thin it is despite the fact that it is packing a large 5,000 mAh battery inside.

We don’t have the latest Android 9.0 Pie here with Samsung’s One UI but instead we have Android 8.1 Oreo with Samsung’s older Experience UI on top. Well, its quite smooth though we would like to keep in mind we only had a few hours with the phone.

As for the cameras, we are very impressed with the dynamic range and overall quality of the photos. Photos taken from the wide angle camera is equally good. We are excited to explore more of its camera once we get a unit for review.

Here are some of the sample photos we’ve taken:

First Impressions

This is the first time after a long time that we are impressed with a Samsung budget smartphone. The large 5,000 mAh battery has yet to be tested for our full review. Great hardware, nice camera, big battery for only Php 10,990 is a great deal for many smartphone buyers.
