The ASUS Zenfone Max M2 comes with a metallic frame with matte color coating as compared to the glass-like cover of the Zenfone Max Pro M2. Honestly, we still prefer this type of build since scratches are not getting visible instantly. The phone also feels slimmer compared to other smartphone knowing that it has a huge 4,000mAh battery.

Ports and buttons:

  • Right – volume rockers and power button
  • Left – SIM tray
  • Top – 3.5mm audio jack port and microphone
  • Bottom – loud speaker, microUSB port, and a microphone

The Zenfone Max M2 has a huge 6.3-inch display with a notch. Since it’s on Stock Android, there is no default option to hide it. As for the display itself, we had no problem using it outdoor, color reproduction is good, and details are sharp enough.

The Snapdragon 632 was a quite performer. It can perform most of the tasks a casual gamer would want to do. It can play smoothly most popular games such as PUBG Mobile on low graphic settings. The 3GB of RAM is just enough for multi-tasking and using multiple app simultaneously.

Sample GeekBench scores:

The Zenfone Max M2 has dual rear cameras composed of a 13MP + 2MP sensors. It can take average quality images specially on good lighting conditions. Low-light photos are also acceptable and brighter thanks to its f/1.8 aperture on the main sensor. It can also produce clean bokeh effect when using the portrait mode feature.

On the front, it has a singe 8MP selfie camera accompanied by an LED flash. The photos we’ve got are also good and more realistic in terms of maintaining the natural skin color, the details, and the bokeh effect when using the portrait mode on the front camera.

We had a maximum of 8 hours on a video loop test which is equivalent to 8 episodes of Game Of Thrones. Using the device as a daily driver, average users will surely have plenty of battery juice left before going to bed. It has a good battery standby time wherein it only consume few bars after leaving it unattended for few hours.

If you are looking for a more affordable alternative version for the Zenfone Max Pro M2, the Zenfone Max M2 is just here to offer almost the same performance a casual gamer is looking for on a smartphone. Its big display and above average battery are just some of the great feature it can offer. Not to mention, the Stock Android also brings a smoother overall experience plus the incredibly slim profile despite of having a huge battery capacity.
