Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 Unboxing and First Impressions

Huawei has been very aggressive with its entry level line up when it announced two new smartphones, the Huawei Y7 Pro and Huawei Y6 Pro. Both well priced below 10k, budget conscious Filipinos will definitely take a look at these phones as their next purchase.

We now have the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 and it promised good photos and great design for only Php 9,990. Will it impress us? Let’s find out.

Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 specs:

  • Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor
  • Adreno 508 graphics
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB internal memory expandable via microSD
  • 6.26-inch HD+ display (1520 x 720 pixels)
  • 13 MP (f/1.8 aperture) + 2 MP depth sensor rear facing camera
  • 16 megapixel front facing camera
  • Dual SIM, Dual Standby
  • 4G/LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth
  • 4,000 mAh battery
  • Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.2

What’s inside the box?

  • Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 unit
  • USB 2.0 cable
  • Wall charger
  • SIM card ejector tool

We don’t have a pair of earphones included in the box but whrn you avail the pre-order, you will get a pair of earphones plus other freebies (phone is on pre-order as of this writing).

The design is very reminiscent of the Huawei Y9 2019 we reviewed a few months ago. with its vertical logo and “AI Camera” brading at the back. It so cool to look at especially when you take landscape photos. The body is made with shiny plastic though it doesn’t feel cheaply made. Its not glass so you won’t worry about breaking it on accidental fall. It does attract fingerprints so better put on the case included in the box.

Unlike the Huawei Y9 2019, it does not run Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, instead, it runs the older Android 8.1 Oreo. We are not sure if it will be updated to the latest Android version but if not, we understand since its a budget phone.

For us, Snapdragon 450 is a decent performer in its price range but we wish it has 4GB RAM instead of 3GB. But for a regular smartphone user, 3GB RAM will be just fine for social media, emails, light games and light tasks.

We took the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 for a spin yesterday and took our first sample shots and so far we are impressed with it. All photos were taken in auto settings and AI turned on.

Here are some of our sample photos:

Aside from the slightly underwhelming RAM allocation, we were quite impressed with the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 based on our first 24 hours of use. Its striking design, build quality, decent cameras and large battery gets a two thumbs from us if you are already thinking of buying one. If you can wait, we will release our full review in a few weeks.
