Another year has come to an end and we are here to look back at the most read smartphone reviews on this past year. These phones really captured the interest of so many smartphone buyers mainly because of the specs and price it offers. In no particular order, here are the top smartphones in 2018!

Realme C1

Realme, the sub vrand of OPPO made a big splash when it arrived in the Philippines in late 2018. Its first offering, the Realme C1, offers great specs for the price of Php 5,990 and sometimes, on a flash sale, it goes down to Php 5,490. What interests buyers is the quality of the front and rear cameras and a very impressive Snapdragon 450 powering the device.

OPPO A3s

The OPPO A3s earned an award as #FTARecommended Best Entry Level Smartphone of 2018. Another great entry level smartphone priced at Php 6,990. This phone is packing a large 4,230 mAh battery which was able to reach us 2 days of juice. It has the same chipset as its cousin the Realme C1, Snapdragon 450 with 2GB RAM. Cameras are quite impressive too!

Vivo V11

Vivo made a mark this year with the Vivo V11. It introduces an under screen fingerprint scanner and a waterdrop notch. This phone is powered by Snapdragon 660 which is a powerful yet battery efficient chipset. We awarded the Vivo V11 as the #FTARecommended Best Selfie on a Smartphone. It truly is a camera for selfie lords this year.

Huawei Nova 3

Huawei surprised us them it introduced the Huawei Nova 3 into the market as it offers the same specs sheet as the Huawei P20/P20 Pro flagships. Our unboxing video on Facebook is one of the most watched this year. Aside from the specs, it has pretty impressive cameras overall despite the lack of Leica branding. Huawei also plans to update this phone to Android 9.0 Pie soon.

Honor 8x

The Honor 8x became extremely popular to smartphone buyers especially specs geeks. It is powered by Huawei’s new Kirin 710 midrange chipset which is surprisingly capable for games and multitasking. The Honor 8x has better cameras than its competition with its 20MP main shooter and 2MP depth sensor at the rear. It earned a #FTARecommended award for Best Midrange Smartphone for 2018.

ASUS Zenfone 5

Although outgrown by the competition later in 2018, the ASUS Zenfone 5 was the most popular phone and most read on our blog when it launched in Q2 2018. It has one of the best designs in a phone. Cameras had the biggest improvement over the previous model and has surprisingly good video capabilities.

Pocophone F1

The Pocophone F1 by Xiaomi is not just popular in the Philippines but over the rest of the world. It captured the attention of everyone with its compelling $300 price tag but offering top notch specs found on phones nearly reaching $1,000. The phone is a mobile gamers dream phone because of the Snapdragon 845 chipset with the addition of water cooling tech inside when playing graphic intense games.

Nokia 7 Plus

This is personally our favorite phone of 2018. Aside from that, this phone is the reason why Nokia climbed back to the local smartphone arena. Since Google’s Pixel 3/3XL are not sold in the Philippines, the Nokia 7 Plus is a phone for many Android purists in the Philippines. It is one of the first to get Android 9.0 Pie in October 2018 and another update is expected to come with the next Android version arrives.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro

In the flagship smartphone arena, much of the hype came to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro with its triple camera set up; Huawei did a different approach here by eliminating the monochrome camera in favor for a wide angle lens. Camera shots are just mind blowing impressive. The price may be steep bit it is worth getting especially if you have the money. Huawei is also doung a great job giving software support to their phones this year. Expect the same treatment with your Huawei Mate 20 Pro next year.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

There are rumors circulating that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will be the last Note model as the company will revamp its smartphone line up next year.Despite its high price tag, it managed to get some wide interest among smartphone buyers especially the new features the S Pen can do. This is really an all-around phone – great build quality, great cameras, more S Pen functionality, large vibrant display.

What a great year 2018 is for smartphones! We are excited what 2019 has to offer to us. A HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone and thank you for all the support.
