Samsung Philippines has recently launched the Samsung Galaxy J8 with dual camera setup that have larger aperture value compared to most mid-range smartphones.
The Galaxy J8 has a 16MP (f/1.7 aperture) plus 5MP (f/1.9 aperture) rear camera setup. Technically, the Galaxy J8 should be able to capture bright images even on low-lights. While on the front, it has a single 16MP with an aperture of f/1.9.
Let’s see if the Galaxy J8 really excels in taking picture at night.

The Samsung Galaxy J8 has a similar body aesthetics with the Galaxy A6 Plus. Although its body is made from plastic, the Galaxy J8 still looks well crafted and stylish.
It also looks like a bigger Galaxy J6 unit with a dual rear camera setup. We love its curve edges and matte color finish which repels most of fingerprint marks and smudges.
Ports and Buttons:
It has the speaker and power button on the right side..
The 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone, and the micro USB port are on the bottom part..
And the dual-SIM card tray, microSD card slot, and the volume rockers are on the left side.
The Galxy J8 has a pretty decent display. With a screen size of 6-inches and a resolution of 720×1480 pixels, it has good color reproduction, good contrast, and bright display for daylight. Although it is not the best display out there in the mid-range category, it’s still acceptable for most of us.
The Galaxy J8 runs with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Octa-core processor and the Adreno 506 GPU. This is a better processor as compared to Exynos mid-range processors. As a result, the Galaxy J8 is capable of the usual multitasking activity thanks to its 3GB of RAM. For the storage, it has a 32GB of internal memory which you can still expand with the help of the dedicated microSD card slot.
Here are some benchmark scores:
The camera part is where we are excited the most. The Galaxy J8 has a combination of 16MP (f/1.7) + 5MP (f/1.9) rear cameras which are theoretically good low-light cameras because of their larger aperture size.
After few weeks of testing, we are quite impressed with the sample pictures that we have taken. It really excels on low-light as compared with other mid-range smartphones.
We also like the Live Focus feature where you can change the shape of the bokeh like for example into hearts, star, flower, etc.
While on the front, it has a single 16MP (f/1.9 aperture) camera with LED flash. Just like on its rear cameras, the Galaxy J8 can also capture decent photos specially on dim environments as compared to other smartphones with f/2.0 or f/2.2 apertures.
When it comes to battery endurance, the Galaxy J8 is capable to last the whole day with its huge 3,500mAh battery juice. The app monitoring program is working pretty well in reminding you which app uses the battery while running in the background.
The Samsung Galaxy J8 is one of the best mid-range smartphone that Samsung has to offer. With its well crafted design, huge and tall looking display, and its above-average camera system which are really good in low-light. For the price of PHP 15,990, it might not be as powerful compared to others, but if we talk about its cameras, the Galaxy J8 has overtaken most of its competitors.
