BUILD QUALITY / DESIGN
The Samsung Galaxy J6 is a very handy smartphone. It has a very compact form factor that allows it to fit on most users hand. Design wise, it actually inherits the some look from the Galaxy A6 (2018). Even though it was made up of plastic, the Galaxy J6 doesn’t feel cheap at all. Thus making it a little bit lighter compared to other smartphones on its price range which are made from aluminum or metal.
Gamers will surely like the placement of the speaker on the right side of the phone. Speakers on the bottom part of the phone are prone to blockage when playing games. Lying beside it is the power button.
The bottom part houses the 3.5mm headphone jack, a microphone, and the microUSB port.
On the left side, it has the dual SIM tray, microSD card tray, and the volume rockers.
Looking the phone at the back, you will see the resemblance of the Galaxy A6 (2018) with the single rear camera and the fingerprint scanner below it plus the LED flash on the right side.
Flipping the phone on the front, it has the selfie camera, voice-call speaker, and a LED flash.
By having the first ever Infinity Display on the J series of Samsung, the Galaxy J6 now has a slimmer bezels on both sides and taller looking screen. Navigation buttons are now also incorporated into the display. Although Samsung labeled it as an entertainment-centric smartphone, the HD+ display quality is a bit downer. But since it has a small screen, we think its good enough for most consumers out there.
Gaming is a part of entertainment. And if you will ask if the Galaxy J6 is capable of some popular games including PUBG, the answer is yes. But you still have to calibrate some high graphic games on a lower settings to fully enjoy the game. The Exynos 7870 chipset with 14nm Octa-core processor is a little bit old wherein other smartphone on its price range are now equipped with the latest Snapdragon 636.
The 32GB ROM and 3GB RAM configuration of the Galaxy J6 is good enough for everyday use. Good thing, it has a dedicated microSD card slot if you are not contented with the given internal storage.
The Samsung Galaxy J6 sports the combination of 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front facing camera which most mid-range smartphones have now-a-day. Both cameras are able to capture average-grade images on well-lit environments. Though both sensors have an aperture of f/1.9, we didn’t see a major step-up since it kinda loose some white balance on low-light scenarios.
Here are some sample photos:
The Galaxy J6’s battery life can actually last a whole day of average usage. Why? Because its HD+ display and the dated but still efficient Exynos 7870 are doing well in consuming the battery juice. With this, you can still maximize the use of your smartphone with your daily lifestyle like browsing on the internet / social media, calling / texting, watching your favorite K-drama during leisure time, and some occasional gaming.
The Samsung Galaxy J6 does its job as an entertainment-centric smartphone with the presence of the Dolby Atmos and the capable Exynos 7870 14nm Octa-core processor. It has very small and compact form factor which is perfect for those who are looking for a device that they can use with one hand. Meanwhile, other competitors have a better offering for the price. Technology is fast approaching and it seems that using old processors on latest devices could result to some disadvantages. But if you are an loyal consumer of Samsung, the Galaxy J6 is still a good deal under the J series.
