ASUS ROG Strix GL503 Review

Republic of Gamers (ROG) offers the gaming-centric devices from ASUS. And today we are going to share with you our experience with the ASUS ROG Strix GL503.

The ROG Strix GL503 actually comes in two variant. The lower end unit which has Intel Core i5(7th Gen), 8GB of RAM, 1TB of SSHD, and GTX1050 with 2GB of VRAM. While the higher end unit that we have is the one which has Intel Core i7(7th Gen), 8GB of RAM, 1TB of HDD + 128GB of SSD, and GTX1050 with 4GB of VRAM.

Looking at the back of the display, you can easily determine that this laptop is a product of ROG because of its logo which also glows when the device was turned on.

It has a black brushed-metal cover which has a hairline-pattern finish. We like what ROG did here because instead having a plain cover, they added some stylist look into it.

Opening the device, a ROG logo is also present below the screen. You will also notice the thick bezels around the screen which are just normal for gaming laptops.

Focusing the attention on the keyboard part, the layout of the keys are just right and it made special with the four hotkeys located at the upper left corner.

And since RGB is life, we are also happy to see that the GL503 supports Aura RGB for its keyboard.

It has a 15.6-inch FHD IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 60Hz. Its screen brightness is also good that you can see the display clearly even on bright environments.

The ROG Strix GL503 offers a 100% sRGB color range so expect that it will fit for most game genres.

It also comes with ASUS Splendid Technology, an easy-to-use tool that contains three presets and a manual mode that apply your preferences for a variety of game genres, enhancing sharpness and color performance. You’ll enjoy sharp, clear imagery with accurate, consistent color from all viewing angles for gaming experiences that bring you closer to reality.

Since the review unit that we have was equipped with Intel Core i7(7th Gen), 8GB of DDR4 RAM at 2400MHz, and GTX1050 with 4GB of VRAM, you can expect that it can run most of the high graphic games in their medium to high settings.

Some of the games that we have play are, DOTA 2, PUBG, Dragonball Fighter Z, and Tekken 7. On medium settings most of them are smooth to play but pushing the graphic a little bit higher results to the over-boosting of the fans.

With a single press of a hot key, ROG Gaming Center enables you to see a comprehensive dashboard with loads of useful information, including CPU and GPU frequencies, voltages and temperatures. You can use the control panel to adjust CPU and GPU power consumption in real time.

ROG GameFirst IV, ROG Aura Core, XSplit GameCaster, NVIDIA GeForce Experience, and ASUS Splendid software settings can easily be accessed through the Gaming Center.

Aside from the good display, the GL503 also sports a built-in smart amplifier technology which delivers louder in-game audio up to 200% higher volume and minimizes distortion to ensure smooth operation.

Strix GL503 includes ROG Sonic Studio software with in-game noise cancellation and voice-volume stabilization technology, to deliver clearer, louder and more enjoyable audio and chat. Sonic Radar helps gamers detect opponents through an on-screen overlay that shows the relative position of gunshots, footsteps and other in-game sound effects. With Sonic Studio and Sonic Radar, gamers enjoy high-quality in-game audio that provides a strategic advantage.

Strix GL503 is engineered with 867Mbps 802.11ac 2×2 Wi-Fi for wireless speeds that are up to 6X faster than 802.11n. With this, you’ll enjoy more of the high-speed bandwidth, smoother gaming and streaming plus increased range to roam further than ever.

Another good thing about the ROG Strix GL503 is the battery life. Aside from playing games, using the ROG Strix GL503 for other works like browsing the internet, doing office files, listening to music, and watching movies gave us around 5-6hours of battery life. That is unexpected on a gaming laptop.

The ASUS ROG Strix GL503 is a good choice if you are looking for a gaming laptop with a good display, long battery life, and a capable specs to run games on their medium to high settings. Aside from that, it also has a unique body design that set it apart from the others. In addition, it is also loaded with cool stuff like RGB keyboard, Sonic Studio, and ROG Gaming Center where you can adjust a lot of different settings to maximize your gaming experience.

Having said that, we give our #FTASealOfRecommendation to the ASUS ROG Strix GL503 for those people who are looking for their gaming laptop.

If the price is too high for you, it has a lower end unit loaded with Intel Core i5(7th Gen), 8GB of RAM, 1TB of SSHD, and GTX1050 with 2GB of VRAM for a much lower price of PHP53,995.

If you want to get a real life experience with it before buying, you can go into the different ROG concept store nationwide or attend on ROG booths during their events.
