Infinix Mobile made a very solid device. Build quality is top notch as compared from what we noticed from its past models. We also love its simplistic design. The matte black model does not attract fingerprints and it is so smooth to touch. Overall feel of the phone is decent though we find it on the heavy side.

This is one of the few phones with a tall 18:9 screen at this price range. Bezels are still very evident on top and bottom chins but we are not bothered by it. It houses the earpiece, selfie camera and flash on top.

The display is a gorgeous 5.65-inch IPS display and colors do pop. Outdoors, the display is still very much viewable so using the phone under direct sunlight won’t be a struggle.

We are so happy to know that the Infinix Hot S3 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset. This entry level chip is known to be a decent performer for everyday tasks and gaming. Based on benchmarks, we can see how decent the Hot S3 is.

On top of Android 8.0 Oreo, just like any other Chinese brands, Infinix Mobile has a thick layer of custom skin called XOS. Overall, the XOS is very light and clean but there are some UI problems we encountered. We constantly get an annoying notification that our Google account will expire and for some reason we can’t dismiss it. Another annoying notification is the Phone Master is running that we can’t dismiss.

Overall, these quirks does not eclipse our good experience with the device. If you don’t like this UI, it is very easy to download a custom launcher.

Both the 13 megapixel rear snapper and the 20 megapixel selfie camera take really good photos on good lighting. At night, both cameras also take good photos but if you are very meticulous with your shots, you will notice some grainy areas and noise but that is usual for this phone at this price range. HDR helps improve photos. Check out some of our sample photos below.

4G/LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth comes in standard with the Infinix Hot S3, So far, WiFi reception has been pretty stable whenever it is connected. Network signal has been pretty stable whether using Smart and Globe networks. Calls are clear with issues and 4G/LTE has been very stable too.

Its 4,000 mAh battery will reach you two days of mixed moderate to heavy use. Though it warms up when using it extensively for gaming and videos, it does not go to the point that you need to worry.

The Infinix Hot S3 could be the best entry level smartphone today. Good camera, decent UI experience and great battery life – qualities that most budget smartphone buyers love. Its UI quirks are forgivable and can be easily fixed with a new launcher.

It does face some though competition like the OPPO A83, Huawei Nova 2 Lite, Cloudfione Next Infinity, and Cherry Mobile’s new Flare series. For now it can be bought only via online shopping but if you are into that, buying it won’t be problem.
