Dell Inspiron 14 7460 Long Term Review

Notebook PCs or popularly known as laptops have risen again to fame after the sudden fall of tablets back in 2015. We’ve owned such brands like ASUS, Acer, Lenovo and HP and we were really impressed with the hardware, proving these laptops will last for years.

Thouh being one of the top 5 PC brands in the world, we’ve never tried owning and reviewing anything from Dell. We heard a lot of good things about them even their outstanding after sales service. So, we decided to buy one – the Dell Inspiron 14 7460 laptop.

We intnetionally did not publish a review immediately because we want to hold on our judgement for our long term review, We bought this laptop back in September 2017 and here’s our full review.

Dell laptops will not not win any awards when it comes to aesthetics and styling but this Dell Inspiron 14 7460 has one durable hardware. We will just borrow a marketing phrase from Ford – “BUILT TOUGH”. Those are the best words to describe this laptop.

It is not lightweight nor thin but for us the weight is bearable. The thickness was not a problem for us. This accomodates the following ports – RJ45 Ethernet, HDMI, USB 3.0 Powershare, USB 3.0 and 3.5mm audio jack on the left and SD Card Reader, USB 2.0 and Noble Lock Secuity slot on the right.

As you open the lid, it will reveal the keyboard and display. But let us focus at the keyboard first. The keyboard including the palm rest and the trackpad is wrapped in a rubberized finish. It feels so good to touch and it gives a comfortable feel when you rest your palm.

We give a two thumbs up for the display. It is quite seldom to find a full HD resolution at this price range. Colors do pop here and watching movies via Netflix, i Want TV or iFlix is such a joy.

That excellent viewing experience is backed by NVIDIA’s GeForce 940MX video card. Though we have not tried it for gaming, playing PC games is better as frame rates are also better. But we would like to emphasize that this is not a gaming laptop.

As for the display brightness. set it at 50% and you will be fine. It saves battery and it is bright enough for everyday use.

Under the hood, the Inspiron 14 7460 is powered by Intel’s 7th generation Core i5 processor. It is a midrange chipset that balances power without compromising battery efficiency.

We mostly our blogging work, watching Netflix and other video streaming services on this laptop and for the past 5 months, Inspiron 14 7460 never hanged or slowed down on us.

With 4GB of RAM, this will enable you to do basic video editing and light gaming. But like what we’ve said we dont encourage you to play heavy gaming or extreme tasks on this device.

WiFi stability was incredible. We cant help compare it with other laptops we reviewed and signal stability is far better on this one.

Our daily grind evolves mostly on work and the use of this device as our main work partner. We are happy to report that we managed to achieve around 7 to 8 hours of battery life with just 50% brightness and WiFi connected all the time.

The Dell Inspiron 14 7460 is truly a reliable workhorse. It may not win in design or styling but it sheer reliability, great hardware, long battery life and decent display will make you forget its cons.

We give our #FTARecommended seal of approval if you are buying one. You won’t regret it and will serve you well for 3 years or so. 🙂
