Before we proceed, let’s talk about the free SIM. The Starmobile UP Prime comes with a free Smart LTE SIM. Once activated, you can get 100MB of free data for the next 12 months. You can load a minimum of P100 and get 500MB of free data more.
There is nothing special on the Starmobile UP Prime when it comes to its design. Everything you see here are just functional and always present in an entry level smartphone.
First, we are happy to see a removable back with a removable battery in a smartphone again. The 3,000 mAh battery should get you through the day of heavy use. But we have to test that first for our full review.
The back looks and feels metal but it is not. Its high quality plastic. Aside from the battery, you will so find the dual micro SIM card slots and microSD card slot. Overall, the Starmobile UP Prime is a pretty solid phone based on our first look.
Ports and buttons:
- Top – 3.5mm headset jack
- Bottom – USB charging port
- Left – nothing
- Right – power button and volume rockers
- Back – 8 megapixel camera with flash and speakers
- Front – 5 megapixel camera, 5-inch display, sensors, three capacitive buttons
On the software side, Starmobile has trimmed down a lot on its customization and we have a pure Android experience. Starmobile used stock Android apps like messages, contacts and even Google Chrome is the default browser.
Its main selling point is the phone’s LTE capabilites with support for 700Mhz LTE band for faster internet. We will get to test that on our full review.
The Starmobile UP Prime did not disappoint when it comes to its hardware. It is a very solid phone and a nice display. Its overall performance including the camera, battery and daily use will be reserved for our full review. 🙂
