OnePlus is a brand that tech savvy folks love. It is a relatively new company – started in 2012, based in China, founded by a former OPPO employee and only offers one or two phones a year. They started to target the US and European market via invite only basis if you want to buy a phone but eventually offered the device via online store.

But ordinary, non techie folks won’t probably know about OnePlus and its current flagship the OnePlus 5. Well this article is for you. We have listed the reasons why you should buy the OnePlus 5.

Over the years, OnePlus has continued to make their hardware better and the OnePlus 5 now has a design language from a brand we are all familiar of. They may be looking alike but this is not the first smartphone to have this design

Inside is a monter! Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, you may not understand how powerful this is. To make things simplier – it gets the job done BIG TIME. You can leave a game and transfer to another app with ease, You can send email while talking to someone on the phone all at the same time. Basically, it is a multi tasker.

Does 16GB of internal storage tick you off? Errr…. Well, that is not the case with the OnePlus 5. There are two variants – a 6GB RAM with 64GB internal storage model and a bigger 8GB RAM with 128GB of internal storage.

The bigger the RAM, the batter you can leave apps open without slowing your phone down. There is no expandable storage here but the huge onboard storage may not require you to have one.

If you are coming from iOS, you will love Android when you buy the OnePlus 5. The device offers purely stock Android UI with minor tweaks of their own. This is called OxygenOS, OnePlus’ custom skin over Android.

Instead of sliding left or right to view your apps in iOS, on Android you just have to slide up to view your apps. If you hate the current look you can download a different third party launcher to make your Android experience closer to your taste.


OnePlus has placed two cameras at the rear – a 16 megapixel camera with f/1.6 aperture and normal zoom and a 20 megapixel camera with f/1.6 aperture and with 2x optical zoom. Now these are really amazing cameras on paper. On real world use, they are more than amazing. They capture breathtaking photos!

The main problem with Android is getting timely software updates. When Android OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer) such as Samsung, LG, OPPO, Huawei, etc put their own skin, it does take time to get the much needed updates. But with OnePlus 5, that won’t be problem. In fact, its predecessor, the OnePlus 3 and 3T got their Android 7.0 Nougat update first than any other flagships out there.

Over the years, OnePlus has always positioned themselves as the “flagship killer”, offering a flagship level smartphone for half the price of other flagships. In the case of the OnePlus 5, price has gone up but it is still way below the flagships.

As a point of comparison, here are the following prices of the current flagships in the Philippines:

The OnePlus 5? The 6GB RAM/64GB ROM configuration is only P25,990 while the 8GB RAM/128GB model is priced at P29,990. As you can see, the closest flagship to its price is the Huawei P10 and everything else is priced above 30K.
