Kata M4s Hands On and First Impressions

The 10k to 15k is flooded with smartphones of the same design – a metal unibody design. So why not do a different design? That’s what Kata Philippines did with the new Kata M4s with its glass and metal combo. Come on and let’s explore this new phone!

Kata M4s:

  • 1.5GHz octa core Mediatek MT6750 processor
  • Mali T860 graphics
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB internal storage expandable via microSD
  • 5.5-inch HD AMOLED display (1280 x 720 pixels)
  • 18 megapixel rear facing camera with autofocus and LED flash f/2.0 aperture
  • 8 megapixel front facing camera f/2.0 aperture
  • Dual SIM, Dual Standby
  • 4G/LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, Fingerprint Scanner, USB Type C
  • GPS, A-GPS
  • 4,350 mAh battery
  • Android 7.0 Nougat

We’ve reviewed many Kata smartphones in the past and based on our first look at the Kata M4s, it is truly the best-looking Kata to date. It is even more good-looking from the Kata M4 we reviewed a few months ago. We are not yet sure about the glass covering the front and back but we are pretty sure that the camera lens is a Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The 2.5D curved glass on the front is beautiful making the phone sexy. The curved glass back reminds us of last year’s Samsung Galaxy S7. Unfortunately, according to the folks at Kata Philippines, it only comes in white. We hope they could come up with other colors.

We only had about 48 hours with the phone and overall it is pretty smooth. Oh, by the way, this is a pre-release unit so we expect some minor bugs on this particular phone. All bugs we noticed are easy fix via software update.

Kata’s own custom UI eliminates the app tray. This means all you apps are on the home screen. A third party launcher can be installed if you don’t like this.

The Kata M4s comes with all the latest connectivity options – 4G/LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth and Fingerprint Scanner. So far the fingerprint scanner works fine. LTE connectivity is also on the normal range.

The Kata M4s left us with good impressions. Minor bugs are easy fix but the hardware is top notch. The glass and metal combination is beautiful and this particular white variant has pearly touches making it very elegant. We can’t wait to get our hands on with the final retail unit.
