Smartphones under 10k has become a main battle ground among smartphone brands. This year, Kata wants to offer something new to the table with this price range with the Kata M3s. Now up for pre-order, the Kata M3s is facing tough competition with the ASUS Zenfone Live, Vivo V5 Lite, Vivo Y53, OPPO A39, Huawei GR3 2017 and the Cherry Mobile Flare P1 Plus. What is our first impression of this device? Let’s find out together.

The Kata M3s has a mix of metal and plastic for its chassis. The back is plastic while the frame is metal and the front is glass in which we are not sure if this a scratch resistant one. The reason why the back is plastic is for you to remove it to reveal the dual SIM card slots, a dedicated microSD card slot, and the removable 2,500 mAh battery. It is already rare these days.
Overall, feel on the hardware is very solid but the finish on the metal frame could be easily chipped off when dropped accidentally. It comes with two colors – white and gray. We have not seen the gray variant but we are loving the white model.
Good thing Kata only settled for a 720p display since the M3s has a smaller 2,500 mAh battery. A lower res display sips less power. Anyway, Kata has been known for its very decent screen panels and the Kata M3s didn’t disappoint. It is bright, colorful and vivid. We will do more testing on our full review.
The 13 megapixel camera is decent though its weakness is low light shots. It takes time to focus and camera shutter also takes time to take photos. Worry not my friends, the unit we have here has a pre-release software so it is not yet final. We hope the bugs on the camera will be fixed once the retail units are out.
As of this writing, we had the M3s for 24 hours now. We’ve only downloaded the essential apps we need like Viber, Grab, Uber and our social media apps. So far, the phone has not slowed down when most of these apps are open. We will do more stress tests like playing games on our full review
The Kata M3s left us with pretty good impressions. Our pre-release unit is not the final retail unit and there are things that needs to be improved. But those were easy fix and these are just software-related. Hardware is good overall and we miss the plastic/metal combo and the access to a removable battery. We will release a full review once the final retail unit is here.
