HARDWARE AND DESIGN
The Kata M4 has an all-metal unibody design that resembles a mix of the a Xiaomi smartphone and the Nexus 6. Otherwise, it is an elegant and sexy smartphone – easily pocketable, easy to hold with one hand and you won’t be shy to flaunt.
Though it has an elegant design, the metal finish can be eagsily scratched and prone but dents so better get a case when you buy one. It may be thin and sexy but it is not as light as you think. Audio qua lity is on the weak side but the good thing here it is not distorted.
We love Full HD displays. It is bright, vivid and has good color contrast. Just like the Kata M4, it good viewing angles and good sunlight legibility. Auto brightness is also accurate and adjusts quickly.
SOFTWARE AND PERFORMANCE
The Kata M4 is powered by a Mediatek MT6753 chipset which is a bit dated but works well. You’ll never feel a dated chipset is underneath the hood as day to day use is snappy thanks to its generous 3GB RAM. Gaming experience has been fun however, memory hogging games may take time load.
Kata has tweaked a bit our vanilla Android experience by eliminating the app tray. You can install a third party launcher to put back the app tray.
When it comes to camera, the Kata has impressed us and the Kata M4 did not disappoint. It has a 13 megapixel front camera and an 18 megapixel rear shooter. Both cameras take really good photos on different lighting conditions but if we will be more critical on the photos. it tends to be a bit grainy when taking photos. Check out the photos!
All connectivity options are available – WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G/LTE and Fingerprint Scanner. Calls are clear with no issues although earpiece output is a bit weak and we can’t hear our caller when in a loud area. Fingerprint Scanner works fine and unlocks the phone quickly.
One of its drawbacks is the battery. In order to achieve its sexy physique is the cut corners in the battery department. The company stacked a 2,800 mAh battery. It shows when we did a video loop test. We managed to around 3 hours and 15 mins of screen on time and nearly 7 hours of standby time. On casual usage battery gets longer standby hours.
The Kata M4 is a good phone with great features – great camera, smooth experience, nice display, sexy body, good looking phone. The battery may be a bit disappointing but if you don’t mind that and you have a power bank ready, then we guess this is the phone for you.
