OPPO R9s Hands On and First Impressions

During our time at Sinulog 2017 in Cebu, we spotted one of our friends from OPPO Philippines with a hot red OPPO R9s. This limited edition red OPPO R9s was released in China in time for the upcoming Chinese New Year. We were able to get a quick hands on and here’s our first impressions.

  • Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor
  • Adreno 506 graphics
  • 4GB RAM
  • 64GB internal memory expandable via MicroSD
  • 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD display (1920 x 1080 pixels)
  • 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5
  • 16 megapixel rear facing Sony IMX 298 camera f/1.7 aperture with EIS, dual autofocus and LED flash
  • 16 megapixel front facing camera f/2.0 aperture
  • 4G/LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, Fingerprint Scanner
  • GPS, A-GPS
  • 3,010 mAh battery with VOOC Fast Charging technology
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Color OS 3.0

We don’t normally cover unboxings but since our good friends from OPPO handed over the R9s with the box, we decided to share our unboxing experience. The limited edition red variant is beautifully packed in a posh red box. All its accessories are nicely placed in the box. From the box it already feels so premium.

What’s inside the box?

  • OPPO R9s unit
  • USB cable
  • VOOC powered wall adapter
  • Earphones
  • Clear Case
  • SIM card Ejector

The OPPO R9s is one very slim, very sexy device. It is quite light at 145 grams and very pocket friendly. We noticed the three small antenna bands at the upper back and three more at the back for better signal reception. This limited edition red R9s looks so good and we can’t stop looking at it! The all metal chassis is slippery good thing it has an included clear case.

Moving on to the software, the R9s has OPPO’s custom skin ColorOS on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Like we’ve said before, ColorOS is one of our favorite custom skin because it is stable, has less lags, very intuitive and clean. It does resemble Apple iOS but it does not matter since there are many Chinese OEMs that resembles iOS but it is not as stable and lag free as ColorOS. Another factor for its lag free experience is the silicon underneath is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset which is already proven to be a good performer. The chipset is backed by 4GB RAM and generous 64GB of internal storage.

If the OPPO F1s has a 16 megapixel front and 13 megapixel rear camera set up, the OPPO R9s has two 16 megapixel camera set up! Photos taken exceeds are expectations. Here’s take a look at some of the photos.

The OPPO R9s is truly a beautiful smartphone. This particular red variant add sophistication and class when holding it. We are also impressed with both cameras as it takes good photos on any light situation. It is still unclear whether when will OPPO Philippines be bringing the R9s here but if they do, the device will be facing the ASUS Zenfone 3 which is probably the target competition.
