Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 Hands On and First Impressions

Samsung Philippines has just launched the newest line of Galaxy A-series yesterday and we were lucky enough to be able to play with the Samsung Galaxy A7 2017. This is the third Galaxy A7 and there key improvements and changes from last year’s model. Let’s take a quick look!

Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017):

  • 1.9GHz octa core Exynos 7880 processor
  • Mali T830MP2 graphics
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB internal memory expandable via microSD up to 256GB
  • 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display (1080 x 1920 pixels) with Always On Display
  • Corning Gorilla Glass
  • IP68 certified – dust proof and water resistant up to 1.5 meters and 30 minutes
  • 16 megapixel rear facing camera f/1.9 aperture with autofocus and LED flash
  • 16 megapixel front facing camera
  • Dual SIM, Dual Standby
  • 4G/LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, Fingerprint Scanner
  • 3,600 mAh battery with fast battery charging
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Looking at the Galaxy A7 2017 for the first time, the design reminds us of the glory days of the Samsung Galaxy S3 of 2013. It looks a bit of a retro for us especially with the S3’s pebble design. If the first model is plastic and metal combo while the second model was an all-metal combo, this new model is a glass and metal combo. It feels thicker and heavier than the flagship Galaxy S7 Edge maybe because of its lack of curves on the sides. We do love this Black Sky variant we have here but there are other color options coming – Gold Sand and Blue Mist.

We are happy to report that features like water and dust resistance is already available on the Galaxy A7 2017.  This means you can now dip the phone into water for up to 1.5 meters and 30 minutes. Now you wont have to worry about taking photos on the pool or beach and talking to someone while under the rain.

Features like Always on Display and fast charging are also available. Always On Display keeps the time, battery and notifications on your screen even the display is off. We have not tested yet the battery but we will definitely look into its battery performance once we get to our full review.

We are left impressed by the Samsung Galaxy A7 2017! More flagship features are present though our only gripe is the price and the choice of Android Marshmallow instead of Android 7.0 Nougat. For P23,990 you can get really good phones like ASUS Zenfone 3, Huawei P9 or Moto Z Play. One big advantage of the A7 over these phones is the water and dust resistance. There is more to find out with the Samsung Galaxy A7 2017! Please stay tuned for our full review!
