HAPPY NEW YEAR FELLOW TECHIES!
Brand new year, brand new expectations from the world of tech. Last year was a big whirlwind for tech, some are good, some are bad. So what do we expect from this realm this year? Check it out.
SAMSUNG’S NEW DESIGN FOR THE NEW GALAXY S8
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was supposed to be the best smartphone of 2016 but after series of exploding Note 7’s reported around the world, Samsung was forced to kill the phone and pulled it out of store shelves. Samsung executives faced the media and apologize for the fiasco. This year, expect Samsung to redeem itself from what happened last year. Expect a big bang!
MORE DUAL CAMERAS
Dual rear cameras working together to take an awesome photo was the name of the game for Huawei for its flagships the P9 and the P9 Plus and it catapulted the company to a smartphone brand rockstar. Huawei has reached 10 Million in terms of sales of the Huawei P9 and its bigger sibling the P9 Plus. Apple, LG, Lenovo have joined the game with two rear cameras as well. Expect better execution of this technology on upcoming smartphones.
Vivo and ZTE have used a dedicated Hi-Fi audio chip for their phones in order to gain music loving smartphone users and audiophiles. Good news is it worked and smartphones like the ZTE Axon 7 and the Vivo V3 Max are selling like pancakes. But we must give credit to HTC as they started Boomsound technology with smartphones a few years ago. This year, we think more smartphones will go Hi-Fi as well.
FLAGSHIP LEVEL MIDRANGE SMARTPHONES
OnePlus, ASUS and OPPO have created a new price category called “Premium Midrange”. These smartphones are with flagship level specs and build but priced half of the real flagships. OnePlus 3 was one great smartphone and it is selling well in the US while OPPO F1s and ASUS Zenfone 3 are doing well in the Southeast Asian Region. Why? Premium build, good camera, big RAM but half the price of a Galaxy S7.Expect better tech from their successors this year.
MORE WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY
Apple has killed the headphone jack on the iPhone 7 and so as Motorola with the Moto Z. We believe that more brands will omit the headphone jack in favor of wireless audio such as Bluetooth earphones. Quality-wise, tradional wired earphones do sound better than its Bluetooth siblings but things will change this year.
FAST CHARGING POWERBANKS
If fast charging technology is becoming the norm for smartphone, we think powerbanks will do the same this year. If you can’t be tied up to one place and you need to charge your phone, you still need a powerbank. We believe powerbank makers are now working on fast charging tech for their upcoming models this year. It means it wont take an hour for your phone to be hooked up with a powerbank.
10TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE iPHONE
Everyone was asking us, “Why are you guys not recommending the iPhone?”. Here’s our answer, Apple has used the three-year old iPhone 6 design on the iPhone 7 and its is quite disappointing. As we analyze it, Steve Jobs introduced the first iPhone ten years ago. On September 2017, expect a major redesign for the iPhone as it marks its 10th year.
We have an exciting year ahead of us fellow techies! Expect new tech at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas which will start in a few days.
