Kata M4 Hands On and First Impressions

We consider the Kata M3 as our favorite Kata smartphone ever. It was released in late 2014 and it was made available in early 2015. The large battery, the display and its dark blue color made us fall in love with it. More than a year and a half after its launch, finally, its successor is here. The Kata M4 is a huge leap from the M3. From plastic to metal build, from HD to full HD and from 13 megapixel to 18 megapixel – it is indeed an upgrade. We have a Kata M4 here so let’s take a quick look.

Kata M4:

  • 1.3GHz Octa Core Mediatek MT6753 processor
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB intenral memory expandable via microSD
  • 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD display (1920 x 1080 pixels)
  • 18 megapixel rear facing camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 13 megapixel front facing camera with LED flash
  • Dual SIM, Dual Standby
  • 4G/LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, Fingerprint Scanner
  • GPS, A-GPS
  • 2,800 mAh battery
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Metal! That is the obvious change you will first see when you see the Kata M4 for the first time. The phone looks like a love child of the Google Nexus 6P and the Apple iPhone 5s. Putting the phone face down and you will see more Nexus 6P whereas the side and front, the iPhone 5s. Its not a bad thing since it looks so generic when you place it beside other smartphones.

We love silky smooth metal of the Kata M4 but we have to be cautious as it is very slippery. It is available in gold with white face and gunmetal gray with black face. It seems like Kata has been very keen on aesthetics as the M4 is very thin and surprisingly light. Nice job Kata on the hardware! 🙂

On the software side, nothing has changed. Kata still omits the app drawer so all your apps are on the home screen. Just like we’ve said before, if you don’t like this set up, you can always download a third party launcher.

We are very impressed with its camera! We are so excited and took some shots and photos appeared to be color accurate with good dynamic range. We will do further tests for our full review.

Overall we are very impressed especially with the significant upgrades Kata has made for this phone. Stay tuned for our full review. As of this writing, the Kata M4 is now available for pre-order.
