Kata is back in the game! After being dormant for a few months, the company made a noise as it announced their new smartphone offerings just in time for the holiday season. One of the three smartphones the Kata i5, is the successor of 2015’s Kata i4 which was one of the company’s best selling smartphones. The Kata i5 has many upgrades from its predecessor. The Kata i5 is currently available for pre-order at Kata stores and kiosks as of this writing. Upon first gaze of this phone, we really said “Oh, it so beautiful”. True enough, the Kata i5 is one beautiful piece of hardware. From plastic and metal combo of the i4, the i5 now has a metal unibody design. And speaking of design, it has some resemblance to the Flash Plus 2. The company has up the ante when it comes to solid built quality as this phone has been well put together. We love how good it feels while holding it with one hand.
On the software side, Kata has its own custom UI on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It omits the app tray leaving all your apps on the home screen. If you hate this kind of set up, you can easily download a third party launcher at the Google Play Store. So far operation has been really smooth though we have not installed any apps yet.
For sure the Kata i5’s main selling point as we see it is the generous 3GB RAM. We’re excited to put this phone to so much stress. We’ve also tested the camera and so far, optics take good photos but we have to put it more to a test. Full review will be coming soon! 🙂
