Kata C2 Hands On and First Impressions

Kata Philippines is making a lot of noise lately as it announced their new trio of smartphones, the Kata Selfie, Kata i5 and Kata C2. The good news is we had the three of them for a short hands on. Our focus now is the most affordable among the three, the Kata C2.

The company had two affordable smartphones for this year, the Kata V4 and the larger Kata C1. Both phones are very affordable and highly recommended if you are looking for a phone with your small budget. The Kata C2 still falls under the 5k price point but it has something new to offer. Let’s find out with this short hands on.

Kata C2:

  • 1.3GHz quad core Mediatek MT6580A processor
  • Mali 400MP graphics
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB internal memory expandable via MicroSD
  • 5.5-inch HD IPS LCD display (1280 x 720 pixels)
  • 13 megapixel rear facing camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 5 megapixel front facing camera
  • Dual SIM Dual Standby
  • 3G/HSPA+, WiFi, Bluetooth, Fingerprint Scanner
  • GPS, A-GPS
  • 2,800 mAh battery
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • Price: P3,999

As of this writing, the Kata C2 is now available for pre-order at Kata stores and kiosks near you. It comes in white and black variants. The Kata C2 looks very different from it successor, the C1. The body is quite bigger, thicker, longer and heavier. The added heft must be coming from its metal frame. It gives some premium look though. Build quality, we must say, is superb. It is like a tank! The back can be removed and it will reveal the dual SIM card slots, microSD slot and the removable battery.

The trio already runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Kata’s custom UI on top. It omits the app tray so all your apps will be on the home screen. If you don’t like it, well, you can download a third party launcher like Nova launcher or Google Now launcher. General operation has been very smooth though we have installed any of our favorite apps yet.

Overall, the build left us impressed. We still need more time to test it like the camera and its everyday performance. Take note the Kata C2 has 1GB of RAM which means if you are a hardcore gamer, better take a look at the Kata Selfie and i5 which both have 3GB of RAM. Full review will be posted very soon! 🙂
