Kata Selfie Hands On and First Impressions

Kata Philippines has been awefully quiet this past few months. The last product they launched was the Kata T Mini 3 which was released a few months ago. And that’s a tablet. For the smartphone area, They’ve launched two this year – the Kata V4 and Kata C1 which falls under its very affordable budget segment.

The company is gearing up for the holidays as it teases three new smartphones – the Kata i5, Kata C2 and the Kata Selfie. We have been using the Kata Selfie for a few days now and we are excited to release our first impressions.

Kata Selfie:

  • 1.3Ghz octa core Mediatek MT6753 processor
  • Mali T720 graphics
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB internal memory expandable via microSDR
  • 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD display (1920 x 1080 pixels)
  • 18 megapixel rotating camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • Dual SIM, Dual Standby
  • 4G/LTE (supports 700Mhz LTE band), WiFi, Bluetooth, Fingerprint Scanner-
  • GPS, A-GPS
  • 3,000 mAh battery
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Our first impressions will focus more on the aesthetics and features for now. The Kata Selfie has unique look. We have been thinking of what phone resembles this device and we realized it is a mix of looks from various smartphones. Holding it feels so solid in the hand. It seems so well put together. Sides are tapered for a more comfortable hold and we do love its fingerprint resistant matte finish. It is also surprisingly lightweight despite having a metal frame.

Ports and buttons check:

  • Top – 3.5mm headset jack
  • Bottom – USB charging port and microphone
  • Left – sim card/microSD tray
  • Right – volume rocker and power button
  • Back – speaker, noise cancelling microphone and 18 megapixel rotating camera with flash
  • Front – sensors and 5.5-inch display

This the first time that Kata has leveled up their screen resolution. The Kata Selfie is the company’s first smartphone to have a Full HD resolution. Its bright and crisp plus it can handle the harsh outdoor light. Kata still omits the app tray on their slightly customized UI. There’s an LED notification light (finally!) for your social media notifications, missed calls and unread messages.

By the way, for those who are looking for faster LTE speeds, the Kata Selfie supports LTE band 700Mhz which offers blazing fast internet speeds. As for the camera, it performs well on good lighting but that what we can share for now. Kata also guarantees 1 Million rotations for that 18 megapixel camera so you don’t have to worry about breaking.
