Microsoft has officially announced the end of Lumia-branded smartphones by December 2016. The last Lumia smartphone is the Microsoft Lumia 650 mid range smartphone which was announced in February 2016.
Lumia devices have been on decline in terms of sales since Microsoft acquired Nokia’s smartphone business a few years ago. To those who currently own a Lumia handsets, we will still be supported by Microsoft and updates will continue to come. But the good news is the company is not killing WIndows 10 Mobile as it targets the business market. HP, for example, has been receiving good feedback with the HP Elite X3, a high end smartphone with metal build and running Windows 10 Mobile.
Another interesting news is the forthcoming “Surface Phone”. Lumia smartphones may doing well on sales but on the flip side, Microsoft’s Surface line of portable PCs has been doing very well. Though not officially available in the Philippines, we’ve seen Surface devices being used when we work in coffee shops. The rumors about the Surface Phone has been circulating for some time now and a Microsoft official has been hinting the coming of the new line of smartphones.
