Our Top 10 Smartphones For Mid-Year 2016 (P5,000 to P15,000)

Looking for a new smartphone? This article is for you! Many smartphones has been launched for the first half of 2016 and we will give our best smartphones that we can recommend to anyone for P5,000 to P15,000 price mark.

ASUS Zenfone Max – P7,990

The best selling feature of this smartphone is that large 5,000 mAh battery. During the time that we are reviewing it, we managed to get around two solid days of battery life with moderate to heavy usage. Aside from its battery, the ASUS Zenfone Max has a capable camera, smooth performance and good display. Update for Android 6.0 Marshmallow has been seeded to current owners as well. We also suggest that you take a look at the ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.5S which has a 3GB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset for only P8,990.

Acer Liquid Zest 4G – P5,999

One of the best priced smartphones among this bunch that is made from a global brand is the Acer Liquid Zest 4G. It is quite small and compact that folks with small hands will appreciate. Even if the phone has a 5-inch display, it doesn’t feel big in the hands thanks to its smaller top and bottom chin. It has a fairly decent camera and decent performance. If you are just into social media, traditional calls and texts, the Acer Liquid Zest 4G is just right for you. By the way, there is a 3G version of this phone for a more affordable price of P3,999.

Huawei GR5 – P10,490

If you want some premium touch on a smartphone for this price range, we can’t think of anything but the Huawei GR5. It has an all-metal unibody design and that gold variant looks sooo good! Overall performance is good and camera take really good photos. It has a large 5.5-inch display which is on Full HD but it doesn’t feel so big and heavy despite having a metal build. The Huawei GR5 has been lowered from P11,990 to P10,490. We think it is the best time to buy one now. 🙂

Flash Plus 2 – 2GB RAM/16GB ROM P6,990 and 3GB RAM/32GB ROM P8,490

This Lazada-exclusive device is one good smartphone. Good camera, good performancce, good display. Good everything! There are two variants to choose from and that depends on your needs. If you want more memory and can handle intense games, get the 3GB RAM variant.

Infinix Note 2 – P6,990

Infinix Mobility is the newest smartphone player in the country but it is not a newbie outside our market. It has presence in home country China plus Middle East, Africa and Europe. Their first smartphone to offer us is the Lazada-exclusive Infinix Note 2. For those who are looking for a phablet-sized smartphone, this is your best pick. We have positive reviews for this phone so better check it out.

Samsung Galaxy J7 2016 – P14,990

We have not yet fully reviewed the 2016 Samsung Galaxy J7 but we had a short hands on of a display unit at a mall. So far everything looks promising. There are significant improvements from last year’s model. It now a Super AMOLED panel and the 13 megapixel camera has an f/1.9 aperture. This means you can take good photos in low light. This the most expensive among the bunch so if you are not really a fanboy, you can look somewhere else. Don’t get us wrong this is a good phone but fanboys can now buy one at a Samsung store now. If you find this quite pricey, you can check out the Samsung Galaxy J5 2016.

Xperia XA Colours

Sony Xperia XA – P13,990

The Sony Xpeia XA is the most affordable of Sony’s new X-series of smartphones. This smartphone is on this list because of one thing – that camera. Sony makes the best camera optics and since this is a Sony smartphone, their best optics are here. The phone looks very pretty too with almost zero bezels on the side. Our only gripe is that small 2,300 mAh battery. Other than that is a phone worth a look.

Huawei P9 Lite – P12,490

If you are looking for a flagship smartphone look, feel and total experience the Huawei P9 Lite is your pick. It looks just like the Huawei P9 flagship with very few compromises. Yeah, the Leica co-engineered lens are not here but the 13 megapixel camera takes really good photos. It is probably even better than other smartphones close to its price range.

Oppo F1 – P11,990

Now if you are a selfielord, then the Oppo F1 is must look! The Oppo F1 has a metal unibody design that makes the phone look premium. But the star of the show here is the camera. On paper it has an 8 megapixel front camera. So how it is a star of the show? Oppo has its own software enhancements to make your selfies look good.

Cherry Mobile M1 – P11,999

The Cherry Mobile M1 is not yet available in store but it may be worth the wait. It has flagship worthy specs! It is the first smartphone to sport Mediatek’s Helio X20 chipset which has 10 cores. Yep, you read it right – 10 cores! It has 4GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch display and a 21 megapixel Sony camera. Wow!
