Huawei P9 Lite Hands On and First Impressions

The Huawei P9 is a certified hit! For days, we have been roaming around Metro Manila’s top malls and been asking about the Huawei P9 and we all heard one answer – NO STOCK. For that, we congratulate Huawei Philippines for its very strong sales! We have a Huawei P9 for review and while waiting for our team mate for his in depth dual camera review, our friends from Huawei Philippines has sent us the Huawei P9 Lite for an honest review.

The Huawei P9 Lite is the most affordable among the trio of Huawei’s flagship line. Commonly, when we see the “Lite” versions, we set our expectations high but we get low specs, bad camera, bad performance, bad everything. Does that apply with the Huawei P9 Lite? Let’s find out.

When just looking the at the specs, we are very impressed on what Huawei has put in to the Huawei P9 Lite. Specs are almost flagship or upper midrange – Full HD display, 3GB RAM, 13 megapixel camera. We’ve been using the device for about 24 hours now and it is amazing! The phone looks like the flagship in every way. The difference you will encounter here are the lack of Leica branding, the absence of dual lens technology and the plastic build. That very reliable fingerprint scanner remains here plus it has the same screen size and resolution as the flagship P9.

For those who not familiar with Huawei smartphones, it has its own UI on top of Android called EMUI. It is by far our favorite UI from a Chinese smartphone brand. It is clean, simple and easy to understand. And also, Huawei now holds the title of having one of the best fingerprint scanners on a smartphone today.

Does it mean that it is the “Lite” version of the flagship, you will have a crappy experience? On the Huawei P9 Lite, we don’t think so! Huawei is offering the same experience of their flagship at a lower price. We will do further testing on the Huawei P9 Lite for the next two weeks. Stay tuned. 🙂
