Kata V4 Hands On and First Impressions

Kata Philippines announced two new affordable smartphone recently, the Kata C1 and the Kata V4. We reviewed the Kata C1 already and its an awesome smartphone for the price. Now Kata PH has sent a Kata V4 for review. Its a pretty phone too but before we share our first impressions, here’s a quick rundown of specs.

Kata V4:

  • 1.3GHz quad core Mediatek MT6580 processor
  • Mali 400 MP graphics
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB internal storage expandable via MicroSD
  • 4.5-inch FWVGA IPS LCD display (854 x 480 pixels)
  • 8 megapixel rear facing camera
  • 5 megapixel front facing camera
  • Dual SIM, Dual Standby
  • 3G/HSPA+, WiFi, Bluetooth, Fingerprint Sensor
  • GPS, A-GPS
  • 1,800 mAh battery
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop
  • Price: P2,699

Upon seeing the Kata V4 for the first time, we find some resemblance from the bigger Kata M2L especially that slightly curved glass on the display. It also has a metal frame though the back is in plastic and removable. Peel it off and it will reveal the removable 1,800 mAh battery, dual SIM card trays and microSD card slot

Ports and button placements:

  • Top – USB charging port and 3.5mm headset jack
  • Bottom – microphone
  • Left – volume up and down
  • Right – power button
  • Back – 8 megapixel camera with flas, speaker grill and camera button
  • Front – 4.5-inch display, 3 capacitive buttons, sensors and 5 megapixel front camera

When Kata PH announced the Kata V4, we first thought that the circular thing at the back is a fingerprint scanner. However, Kata Philippines clarified that it is just a button which wakes the phone, launches the camera and takes photos. So far, we are very impressed with the phone’s build quality. It is very well made and very solid. We will be using the Kata V4 for about two weeks. Stay tuned!
