HARDWARE AND DESIGN
The Flash Plus 2 is a huge step up from last year’s Alcatel Flash Plus. First, the phone dropped the Alcatel brand. Flash Mobile has been established last month to handle the development and marketing of future Flash smartphones. But the said company is still under Alcatel.
We do believe that the independence gained from Alcatel paved the way for its engineers to developed a very good hardware out of the Flash Plus 2. The back is removable but the combination of high quality plastic and metal is very nice as it looks like it has a unibody design. Peeling off the back reveals the 3,000 mAh battery, dual SIM slots and microSD card slot.
Overall, the phone is very nice and comfortable to hold with one hand. It doesn’t even feel like holding a phone with a 5.5-inch display due to its lightweight profile.
Another huge step up is the display. The 5.5-inch display now sports Full HD resolution. Colors and images do pop! We are happy with the screen’s vividness and brightness though we have not tested it outdoors and under direct sunlight.
SOFTWARE AND PERFORMANCE
The Flash Plus 2 has an almost stock Android feel with the usual app drawer present and swiping up and down along the apps is a standard Android Marshmallow affair. Some few tweaks include a change in the looks of standard icons.
Gaming is generally smooth. We did play our usual favorite – Clash Royale and it ran smoothly here. With 2GB RAM, it is more than enough to handle many of the typical games we play and tasks we handle everyday. But if you are a hard core gamer, it is probably best that you wait for the 3GB RAM version of the Flash Plus 2. We never encountered any lags during our review.
We are very surprised with its camera. It performs extremely well as a point and shoot camera. Photos appeared to be taken like a pro with all the necessary details present. Check out our sample photos.
We are very impressed that Flash Mobile was able to come up with a smartphone this good for only P6,990. Good camera, premium hardware, nice display, smooth performance, very well placed price – What more could you ask for? On Lazada’s next sale, make sure you buy one. 🙂
