HARDWARE AND DESIGN
On our unboxing and first impressions, we mentioned that the MyPhone My33 is similar to the higher end My36. It looks a lot like the My36 indeed only on a smaller chassis and display. Both phones look alike that they even have the same soft touch matte back for better grip. It feels like holding a basket ball. We just notice that it is quite heavy but it is not a big bother for us.
We always love MyPhone’s display even on its past models. The MyPhone My33’s 5-inch display is gorgeous! It has good sunlight legibility which perfect for outdoor use and good color accuracy. Auto brightness works well. It pumps up the brightness when needed or go dim when in a dark room.
SOFTWARE AND PERFORMANCE
MyPhone has its own custom UI on top of Android. It eliminates the traditional app tray and all apps are on the home screen. This kind of UI are commonly found on Chinese brands. It is quite a love or hate affair for many users. If you hate it, you can download third party launchers at the Google Play Store.
Performance-wise, it is buttery smooth and handles multi tasking very well. Gaming is quite inconsistent. When Playing Clash Royale, battle games sometimes freeze for a second or two frequently but on Clash of Clans, it is surprisingly smooth. It may be a glitch on the software and can be fixed with software update.
Photos taken from the 13 megapixel Samsung sensor looks fine. It is perfect for sharing at you favorite social media. Same thing with the front camera too.
In order to bring down the price, MyPhone has let go some of the key features of the MyPhone My36 into the MyPhone My33 like LTE connectivity. So far 3G speeds are within normal range and it gets reliable data speeds using Globe and Smart.
The 2,500 mAh battery gives the MyPhone My33 enough power throughout the day. On our moderate to heavy use, we managed to get about 10 hours of battery life. Not bad!
No phone is perfect but the MyPhone My33 got many points to be a good phone for the price point. Good display, decent camera, excellent build quality, and good battery life. You should consider buying one this graduation season especially MyPhone is truly a reliable Filipino brand.
