Asus had a big event at Cebu City yesterday as they unveiled the Asus Zenfone Zoom. The company has focused its resources on the camera and the design making it the one of the most premium among all Zenfones in the market today. We were able to play one in the event and here’s our hands on first impressions.
Asus Zenfone Zoom (ZX551ML):
- 2.5GHz Intel Atom Z3590 64-bit processor
- PowerVR G6430
- 4GB RAM
- 128GB internal storage expandable via microSD up to 128GB
- 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD display (1920 x 1080 pixels)
- Corning Gorilla Glass 4
- 13 megapixel rear facing camera with 3X Optical Zoom, Optical Image Stabilization, Laser Autofocus and dual LED flash
- 5 megapixel front facing camera with wide angle lens
- 4G/LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth
- GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS
- 3,000 mAh battery
- Android 5.0 Lollipop with ZenUI
The first time we saw the Asus Zenfone Zoom, we thought it would be bulky and heavy but to our surprise, it is extremely light and has a thin profile. It does have a camera bump at the back to accommodate its high end camera features. The best thing with the Asus Zenfone Zoom is its genuine leather covering the back and the metal found on the sides. It makes the phone very premium looking. The back cover is replaceable with other colors options like orange and white.
When it comes to the software, there’s nothing new here as the phone still has ZenUI on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop. Overall, the UI is generally smooth and has no lags. But the star of the show here is the camera. We explored the camera’s UI and it is loaded with features.
The 13 megapixel rear facing camera has 3x optical zoom in which when you zoom in your photos, clarity and sharpness will be present here. Usual features found on many Zenfones is the low light mode, night mode, HDR, etc. But the Asus Zenfone Zoom has Super HDR which has up to 400% better contrast. It also has DSLR like manual mode to control the exposure, ISO and many more settings.
The Asus Zenfone Zoom is truly a camera-centric smartphone. It can be considered one of the best camera in a smartphone today. We’ve seen photos taken from the Zenfone Zoom and they were stunning. The P26,995 price tag is pretty well placed as this smartphone is truly a flagship-worthy one.
