Cherry Mobile Flare Selfie Hands On and First Impressions

Cherry Mobile surprised everyone with the announcement of the Cherry Mobile Flare Selfie. It is the first of the Flare line with a large 16 megapixel selfie camera and a fingerprint sensor. It is everyone is excited to buy one so we decided to borrow a review unit from our good friend and fellow tech blogger Peter John Icogo of GizGuide.com. Let’s dive in the explore guys!

Cherry Mobile Flare Selfie:

  • 1.3GHz Octa Core Mediatek MT6753 64-bit processor
  • 3GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage expandable via MicroSD up to 32GB
  • 5-inch HD IPS LCD display (1280 x 720 pixels)
  • 16 megapixel rear facing camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 16 megapixel front facing camera with LED flash
  • Dual SIM, Dual Standby
  • 4G/LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, Fingerprint Scanner
  • GPS, A-GPS
  • 3,000 mAh battery
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop

Holding the Cherry Mobile Flare Selfie feels like holding a smaller Kata M2L. The device has rounded corners and sides making it pleasurable to hold. We are not sure about the if the side trim is metal but it looks and feels metal. It is also surprisingly light despite having a large 3,000 mAh battery which is non removable.

The display is quite decent which nice viewing angles and we find it decently bright. Though we have to test its brightness under direct sunlight if we are lucky to get a review unit.

Cherry Mobile has followed the likes of Huawei, Kata, Lenovo, Meizu, Xiaomi, etc by elimnating the app drawer. Therefore, all apps are scattered on your home screen. There’s a one-tap theme changer that changes the home screen’s icons and overall look. We find that really cool.

We played around the camera but we never got a chance to take photos from both cameras. As for the fingerprint sensor, it is surprisingly fast and very responsive. Setting your fingerprint is very easy too.

Overall, we are very impressed with the software tweaks and build quality of the Cherry Mobile Flare Selfie. The fingerprint scanner is neat feature and we are looking forward to take selfies with that huge 16 megapixel front camera once we get a chance to review one. 🙂
