Kata Box comes in a very sleek and mobile package. It’s 4.2in x 4.2in x 1in black box which is roughly the size of an external hard drive. It comes with a remote control (and a game controller when you pre order). Despite being designed for a TV which is stationary, we really appreciate the ability Kata Box has to be mobile. It gives you the ability to bring your entertainment anywhere, even on your next staycation.

It also has a two USB ports that you can connect a mouse and keyboard to. We highly recommend connecting a mouse to it for better navigation. Kata Box can also play media files from most any storage be it a flash drive, external hard disk or a location in your network.

Kata Box can be connected to any TV through an HDMI cable. It delivers HD content to your TV as long as an HD option is available on the videos you access. You can check this out where we enumerated the apps preloaded onto the device when you purchase it. We primarily used the device for video content and games but you can always check your email on the side with the pre loaded Office apps. We had a lot of fun watching free content provided by Discovery and History. You can also access Netflix, if you have an account via MegaVPN access.

Kata Box functions on Android 4.4 Kitkat and is essentially the doorway for you to access online content. It’s an android device that gives you access to not only TV channel applications but to the entire Google Play library. With the game controller, you can play your favorite android games. With a stable connection at around 3Mbps, you can catch your favorite international shows without a need to download them. You can stream the entire season on your next stay-in weekend.

Entertainment in your hands

If you don’t have internet available, you can download content into its 8GB internal memory and play it from there.

Kata Box is plugged directly into you wall socket as it does not have a battery option. You also have the option to have it connect to the internet via WiFi or Ethernet cable. We recommend Ethernet connection if you have a lot of users on WiFi. Also, it is recommended to have at least 3Mbps or higher for optimum performance. This will help avoid possible lags in video or slow buffering.

At Php 2,999.00, we say the Kata Box is well worth the value. Also, Kata Philippines gives you 60days free on MegaVPN when you purchase Kata Box. You get the ability of your smart phone on your TV and control over your entertainment. Here’s a few things to keep in mind when you get your hands on this device:

  1. Make sure you’re internet connection is stable and fast enough (3Mbps or higher)
  2. A mouse will be enormous help as some apps have content that the remote doesn’t access (play buttons and in-video links)
  3. Yes, download games and try them out with the controller. Some may work and some may not, after all, some android games were designed with touch screen in mind.
  4. Always clean your RAM by using WipeOut every time you leave an app for better performance.

And don’t forget, you can now pre order the device at any of the Kata Philippine’s Stores or Kiosks.
