In response to the rising need of a better selfie camera on smartphones, many tech brands have developed many software enhancements and even putting bigger front camera sensors. For the part of Asus, they’ve introduced the Asus Zenfone Selfie with a 13 megapixel front facing camera with dual LED flash. We took this new Zenfone for a spin and here’s our review.

The device looks exactly the same as its Zenfone siblings – curved back, volume buttons at the back and that power button is still awkwardly placed at the top. The Zenfone Selfie is well built and very solid in the hands. That curved back makes it comfortable to hold. We just noticed that the device is quite taller than its siblings.

The 5.5-inch Full HD display is bright, vivid and legible under direct sunlight. It is much brighter than the Zenfone 2 Laser. Also, the display is perfect for multimedia content.

The Asus Zen UI is one of the most customizable but very smooth skin over Android. Asus has its own theme store to further change the look of the UI. Overall experience is generally smooth even when playing games and doing heavy multitasking.

This review will not be complete if we have not covered the cameras. Asus has been bragging the two 13-megapixel cameras when they held a grand launch event for the this device. At the launch, they’ve been comparing camera samples between the Asus Zenfone Selfie and the Apple iPhone 6.

So, we decided to compare photos taken from both smartphones. Check it out and judge it for yourself.

If you are wondering if where is the earpiece, it is located right beside the huge 13 megapixel camera. Anyway, calls are clear from both ends of the line. We’ve also used both Globe and Smart SIM for to test its LTE capabilities and both networks worked fine. We just find Globe to have faster LTE speeds than Smart.

Compared to the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser, the octa core processor and full HD display of the Zenfone Selfie may probably have a toll on its battery. Good news is there’s not much difference when it comes to battery life. We managed to get 11 hours of mix use from moderate to heavy usage on its 3,000 mAh battery.

The Asus Zenfone Selfie does not just offer great camera perfromance but also good user experience and decent battery life. If you are out for a mid range smartphone, taking a look at the Asus Zenfone Selfie is a priority.
