Pissed With Globe’s New Home Broadband Plans With Data Cap? Here’s A List Of Alternative Internet Service Providers

Are you a Globe Tattoo Home Broadband subscriber? Are you applying for a subscription? Are you pissed with Globe’s new Home Broadband Plan with a small monthly data cap? Then read on with this article.

We at Filipino Tech Addict are Globe Tattoo Home Broadband subscribers too. Honestly we were very disappointed when Globe revamped its Tattoo Home Broadband and implemented monthly data cap on new subscribers. The company said existing subscribers like ourselves will not be migrated to the new plan. But if they do, we will DEFINITELY SWITCH!

We did some research and found out there are really good ISPs (internet service provider) aside from PLDT and Globe. If you think there is a duopoly on wired services, you’re wrong. Let’s explore some of them.

Obviously, we have to take note on PLDT Home, the wired service of the PLDT Group and a sister company of Smart Communications and Sun Cellular. Though we still find them quite expensive, the company has taken steps to improve its services. They’ve recently added BOOSTER PACKAGES to further increase the speed of your current DSL plan. Like if you are a PLDT Home DSL Plan 1299 which has a landline and internet speed up to 2Mbps, you can boost your speed up to 3Mbps with 4GB of data for only P99.

Converge ICT is a new cable TV and internet service provider in the Philippines. They already have top-notch clients who use their service such as government institutions like DepEd, SSS, PhilHealth; educational institutions such as DLSU, STI College, AMA University, Lyceum Of the Philippines, Xavier School; other businesses such as Unionbank, RCBC, Crown Plaza Hotel, and many more. They have indeed established a network but still limited to Metro Manila and neighboring provinces like Pampanga, Bataan, Tarlac, and Bulacan.

Aside from offering internet services to business and enterprise costumers, they also offer Cable TV and internet on regular consumers like us. They offer 3Mbps internet speed for only P998 and 2Mbps with 52 channels on cable for only P1,410. To know more click here.

Sky has recently revamped its services. The company has recently launched its new SKYBundles, a bundle of cable, landline and internet services. Yep, you read that right, Sky has landline services too.

Their most affordable service is the Plan 1697 which has SKYBroadband 3Mbps, SKYCable Bronze 499 with 64 channels and ABSCBN Mobile MHP (Mobile Home Phone) landline service which has unlimited landline calls and unlimited ABS-CBN Mobile calls and texts.

Now under San Miguel Corporation’s umbrella, Eastern Communications is the oldest telecom provider in the country, yes, even older than PLDT. It offers landline and wired internet services in Metro Manila, Baguio, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas and Cebu. San Miguel also bought Express Telecom (Extelcom) a small mobile service provider. The giant conglomerate plans to merge the two companies and infuse more funding to form a viable third player against PLDT and Globe Telecom.

Wi-Tribe Philippines is an internet service provider owned by QTel and San Miguel Corporation. It offers WiMax (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access). Unfortunately, they have not revamped their services for the longest time. Their fastest internet speed is 2Mbps for P998 a month 1Mbps at 1Mbps.

BayanTel is now partly owned by Globe Telecom through a debt purchase deal. Through Globe’s acquisition of 96.17% of the company’s debt, Globe is expected to become its largest investor and shareholder through conversion of its debt to equity. The other part owner is the Lopez Group, the owner of ABS-CBN and Sky.

It has service in areas where Globe’s wired services is not present – In Metro Manila (Caloocan, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, Manila, Quezon City, Muntinlupa, Paranaque), Bicol Region, Parts of Visayas and Mindanao. Their most popular service is Plan 1499 which includes 3Mbps internet speed, a landline and WiFi router.

If you are going to ask us, we still personally recommend PLDT and Sky as your next ISP. Both have good service and very active social media accounts for your inquiries. If you are a Converge ICT or Eastern subscriber, please do share your experience with us.
