The tablet looks like every 7-inch tablet we’ve seen. We just noticed the back, though not slippery, still attracts fingerprints. Battery is non removable so you’ll find the dual SIM card slot and microSD card slot when you open the lid just right at the top of the camera. We also find the tablet quite hefty too.

Display quality is just average. The 1024 x 600 resolution of the 7-inch display is quite low but it is understandable since it has a low price tag. There’s no auto brightness feature here so you have to adjust the brightness manually if you are using the tablet outdoors.

This the first time we’ve reviewed a tablet powered by Mediatek’s MT8382 quad core processor. The chipset is designed for mid range and entry level tablets. It performs well on our tests. Gaming performance is generally good. We played our usual games like Clash of Clans and Dead Trigger 2 and both games run well here.

Camera is has been a tablet’s main selling point so we can’t understand why some tablet users, particularly fellow Pinoys, use their tablets as their primary camera. So Starmobile enhanced the camera experience by putting Back Side Illuminated 8 megapixel rear camera with flash and a 2 megapixel front facing camera. We tested the front camera for Skype calls and we noticed that we look darker while on video call even if the room is well lit.

Since this tablet has phone features, it also has HSPA+ connectivity too. So if you are using the tablet in an area with no WiFi, you can use your Smart or Globe’s HSPA+ network. Using the tablet for call is kinda awkward due to its size. But we know some of you will not mind.

Battery life is merely average, we managed to get 4 hours of screen on time that could last you 7 to 8 hours. We used the tablet mainly for watching You Tube videos and playing games.

The Starmobile Engage 7 3G+ is your perfect all-in-one gadget. The screen is perfect for media consumption and has the ability to make /receive calls and send /receive text messages. No WiFi? No problem! Just turn on your data and you’re good to go. The added dual SIM functionality is also a bonus so there’s no need for another phone.
