Cherry Mobile Alpha Luxe Unboxing and First Impressions

Last month, Cherry Mobile surprised everyone again when it debuted 4 devices running on Microsoft’s operating system, Windows. The company called it the Alpha series. This the first time that a local brand will be carrying Windows on their devices. So far, sales has been good especially with the Cherry Mobile Luxe and the Play. At last, we finally got one unit for review. We have here the Cherry Mobile Alpha Luxe, the 5-inch Windows Phone that is selling for only P4,999 making it the cheapest Windows device with an HD screen. We would like to commend Cherry Mobile for being brave enough, getting out of its comfort zone, and started offering devices not running the usual Android. Another thing, the package looks nice! We love how Cherry Mobile took some time and effort to design the box and made it really pleasing to the eyes. It will make you want to buy one indeed.

When we took the phone out of the box, we were surprised how much this phone resembles the Cherry Mobile Omega Icon which seems to be its Android version. Everything from the button placements, the design, the display are all from its Android-running brother. The only difference we noticed is the glossy but gorgeous back panel which is different front the fake leather with stitching design found on the Omega Icon.

The 5-inch display is absolutely beautiful. We think the 720p resolution is just right for this screen size. The problem we noticed is the screen tend to be too bright even on a dimmed area. Yes, there’s auto brightness here.  So far, animations and transitions are fluid, the best thing we like about Windows Phone even on a low end hardware. The phone has 1GB RAM which means it can run games like Asphalt 8, a graphic intense game that eats more RAM than usual.

We’ll be flying for Seoul, Korea today and we will be bringing the Alpha Luxe with us as our daily driver. We’ll be testing everything from the camera, performance, battery life and gaming. Full review will be coming next week!
