Me Mobile Fuel 5 Short Hands On Review

We’ve spotted Me Mobile Technologies, a new player in the local smartphone market, at the Smart Bro Gadget Expo happening at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall 3. We got a chance to play around with the Me Mobile Fuel 5, the company’s current flagship smartphone.

Me Mobile Fuel 5 specs:

  • 1.2GHz quad core Mediatek MTK6589 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB internal storage expandable via MicroSD up to 32GB
  • 5-inch IPS LCD HD display (1280 x 720 pixels) 294ppi
  • 8 megapixel rear facing camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 2 megapixel front facing camera
  • HSPA+, WiFi, WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth 3.0, FM Radio
  • Dual SIM, Dual Standby
  • GPS, A-GPS
  • 1,800 mAh battery
  • Android 4.2 Jellybean
  • SRP: P8,995 with free earphones and extra battery

The Me Mobile Fuel 5 is one the company’s first smartphone offerings and as one of their firsts, we were quite impressed by its build quality. The phone is quite reminiscent of those old HTC smartphone models. We are, however, are not fans of its shiny back cover. Display was crisp and has good viewing angles. It has a 5-inch HD IPS LCD display.

Navigating and playing around the device was generally smooth and fluid. We are also glad that is has no UI tweaks. You what they say, if you keep it simple, you keep it fast.

Unfortunately, we were not able to play around with the camera. But photos taken from its 8 megapixel rear facing camera looks decent though. We think that 1,800 mAh battery is quite small for a quad core smartphone with a 5-inch HD display.

Overall, we find the Me Mobile Fuel 5 a good first smartphone offering from a newbie company. But more well known local brands like MyPhone, Starmobile and Cherry Mobile has come up with a smartphone with same specs but offered lower than P8,995. We think that Me Mobile should contemplate on reviewing the pricing of their current offerings.
