A new smartphone maker was born and it is called Obi Mobile. So what’s so special about this company? Well, Obi Mobile is co-founded by John Sculley and Ajay Sharma.
John Sculley is the former CEO of Apple from 1983 to 1993. To those familiar with Apple’s history, he was the CEO of Apple when Steve Jobs was kicked out of the company in 1983. Before that, Sculley was also the CEO of Pepsi. When rumors about BlackBerry is looking for a new owner, Sculley was one of the interested parties. When things didn’t work out with BlackBerry, he co-founded this new company Obi Mobile alongside Ajay Sharma, the former head of Micromax’s mobile division.
Micromax is an Indian smartphone maker that also exports smartphones to the Philippines. Local brands Starmobile, MyPhone and Cherry Mobile rebrands them into their own.
Obi Mobile was officially launched last Thursday, April 18. It promised to be selling “affordable smartphones with superior technology. The new company plans on expanding its presence from India to the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Latin America. This means, Obi Mobile will be entering our Philippine smartphone market soon.
