I was able to get a short hands on with the THL W8s War Machine during my recent visit at the Novo7 Tech store in SM North Edsa. Here are my first impressions.

Holding the phone for the first time, it resembles so much of my old Samsung Galaxy S3 with its pebble design. Overall, the phone’s design and build quality gets a two thumbs up!

Most Chinese and local brands are really investing heavily on bringing full HD display to their devices and the this device is no exception. The display is absolutely stunning! Icons really do pop out! Because is an IPS display viewing angles are great.

Due to my limited time with the device, I cannot say how it fares on day to day use. But based on short time with it. It performed really well on simple tasks.

I wasn’t able to get sample pictures with its 13 megapixel camera. Based on the pictures taken from the device, it looks pretty decent.

On paper, the phone only has 2,000 mAh battery. With the phone’s Full HD display and powerful 1.5GHz quad core processor, I don’t think the phone will last 7 hours if you are a power user. With light to moderate usage, I think the battery can last for 8 hours.

For me, the battery is a big downer here. I am a heavy smartphone user since I use my phone a lot and if you are like me, this is not your phone. I strongly recommend you consider the Cloudfone Thrill 530qx which has a monster 4,500 mAh battery, more than twice the battery of the THL W8s War Machine. The Thrill 530qx, however, doesn’t have a full HD screen. If you want to have both full HD display and a decent battery life, I strongly recommend the Starmobile Muse. It has the same full HD screen of the W8s but with a bigger 2,300 mAh battery but I had yet to review it.

I was also able to get a hands on review of the THL W300. Click the link below to see it.
