[Update] Google Nexus 5 Running Android 4.4 KitKat Now Official: Now On Sale Starting Today for $349!

Yes its finally announced! The much rumored Google Nexus 5 made by LG is now official, And because of its Nexus branding, it is the first device running Android’s latest OS – Android 4.4 Kitkat. It is now available on Google Play Store for $349 (around P15,000). Wait, before you guys react, the Nexus 5 is not available on the Philippines’ Google Play Store. Don’t worry, I know LG will bring this device here soon.

Google Nexus 5 specs:

  • 2.3GHz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor
  • Andreno 330 graphics
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16 or 32GB internal storage
  • 4.95-inch Full HD LCD display (1080 x 1920 pixels) 445ppi
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 3
  • 8 megapixel rear facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS)
  • 1.3 megapixel front facing camera
  • LTE, WiFi, WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC
  • GPS, A-GPS
  • 2,300 mAh battery
  • Android 4.4 Kitkat

What I like about the Nexus line is they are always the first to get software updates. Google has already announced that Android 4.4 Kitkat update will be coming to other Nexus devices like the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 pretty soon. Unlike other Android OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) like Samsung, HTC, and Sony were most of their devices are still running Android 4.2 and getting ready for Android 4.3. I will be waiting for this phone to come to the Philippines. I have been an iOS user for a year now and I’m dying to switch to Windows Phone. If there is a phone that could stop me from switching to WP8 and go to Android instead, that would be the Nexus 5.

UPDATE: Tech blog THE VERGE managed to get a hands on with the Google Nexus 5. See it for yourself.

Anyway, the Nexus 5 will be initially be available in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia, Japan and Korea. Paging Kimstore, I will be waiting. 🙂
